I bought this by mistake. Old eyes...stubby fingers.. bought the wrong thing online.

Sellier &Bellot brand 140 grains 9mm sub sonic "Tactical" ammo.

Is this safe and will it cycle in Glock 19. (And no, I do not plan on using a suppressor.)

If you have experience with this ammo.. let me know. Thanks.

Almost all 9mm ammo heavier than 124 grains is subsonic out of pistols, and most 124 grain ammo is subsonic. I have no ideal about that particular ammo, but being subsonic out of a pistol at 140-150 grains is going to be universal to 9mm ammo.

As long as it's FMJ you won't have any lead build up in the groves of the barrel and they would be fine.

It'll be fine. I shoot a lot of 140+ grain stuff through my Glock. I find that it shoots softer.

From what I have learned the last few days reading up on ar9's and ar45's. The main things that will be effected will be velocity. Subsonic will be traveling under 1100fps, as to not break the sound barrier. Will be fine to shoot just wont have as much of distance capabilities. Which IMO is not a issue with a handgun as they aren't designed for long range anyways.

The LE agency I retired from mandated we use 147g subsonic 9mm is our service guns, Glock 19's and Glock 26's. Works as well as any 9mm to cycle the actions.

No worries.

If it is to nato spec it should average a little above the speed of sound.
9mm NATO, 124 Grains

muzzle 1200
Since they say 1200 fps at https://winchester.com/Products/Ammunition/Handgun/USA/Q4318
I assume it will be a little slower.
Here is S&B
Sellier & Bellot 9mm Luger Ammo 124 Grain FMJ at Target Sports USA with free shipping available. ... Muzzle Velocity, 1181 fps ..
So google factoid seems about right: The standard 9mm NATO round is a 124-grain FMJ, loaded to 36,500 psi, which is a bit hotter than the CIP standard of about 34,000 psi. (SAAMI standards are 35,000 psi.) Thus, 9mm NATO is an overpressure variant. A 124-grain 9mm NATO round zips along at about 1200 fps and just shy of 400 ft-lbs of energy.

I have a bit of 9mm 124 grain nato ammo on hand.

NATO is generally regarded as pretty hot, and typically runs into the +P range. Which is fine. But most of the other 124 ammo that people buy (especially the non-+P stuff) is subsonic.

The only point to this is that “subsonic” isn’t some special thing when it comes to 9mm.

STATEMENT
""Almost all 9mm ammo heavier than 124 grains is subsonic out of pistols, and most 124 grain ammo is subsonic.""

Not the only point. To say the majority of 124 gram ammo is subsonic if we refer to total number of rounds out there is hard to prove one way or the other without doing a lot of research that neither of us has done.

The majority of the 124 grain FMJ that I buy is nato and I am ok with that for my glocks. This is for cheap bulk buys of 1,000 rds cases. It is loaded a little above +P.

I am very careful not to fire hot ammo say in a PF9 or some older 9mm's like an Astra 600.
POINT IS JUST BECAUSE IT IS 124 GRAIN DOES NOT MAKE IT SUBSONIC AND PEOPLE NEED CHECK WHAT IT IS THAT THEY ARE BUYING.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Because of the sheer number of individual NATO spec rounds used (particularly by various militaries), that type of 9mm alone might account for a majority of individual rounds fired.

Fair enough. Perhaps it would be more clear if I said "the majority of 124 ammo types/brands/loads are subsonic."

That aside, I take it you would agree with me that there is nothing unusual about 9mm ammo being subsonic, and no particular reason for concern by the OP about whether subsonic 9mm ammo is "safe" or suitable for a service-type pistol?

Exactly, good summary and I agree.

I have noticed that S&B ammo isn't as accurate in my guns as other target ammo I have fired. Haven't had any malfunctions shooting it though. Shoot it and you just might like it better than the stuff you were trying to buy first.

I use basically exclusively 147gr ammo in my Steyr in 9x19, and always subsonic as I haven't got any of that plus P outdoorsman ammo yet.

It's a full size L9A1 so a little different mechanical advantage versus a G19 but they seem to run my gun just fine. They definitely give the best accuracy and POI.
