Decent scope for about $200?

You are, of course, getting all sorts of recommendations. Here's mine, based upon having owned a bunch of scopes including various models of Leupold, Burris, Weaver, Sightron, Vortex and probably a couple of others with street-retail prices (what you actually have to pay for them) in the $300 - $600 range. This one has as good or better optics than any of them, I think it is an outstanding bargain (I bought 4 of them after finding out how good they are). I have the earlier version, not the E1. The earlier, non-E1 version is the Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 with the Ballistic Plex reticle. I love that reticle for both hunting and general plinking/target shooting. Sportsmans Supply has a bunch of them on GB right now. https://www.gunbroker.com/Gun-Scopes/search?Keywords=burris 4.5&Sort=13&PageSize=96 The E1 version has side focus (which I prefer) but a lot of them that I've seen for sale at good prices have the LR MOA reticle which I don't care for (waaay too busy for my tastes). I've never looked through the E1 but have read posts from people who had both models and said that the E1 is as good as the original, optically.

Here's the non-E1 version at Natchez.

Amazon also has them.

Here's the scope on a couple of guns.

OP here. Really appreciate the helpful suggestions. Now I'm headed to my sis-n-law's house with several of my rifles and scopes to help her narrow the field. I have several scopes but most of mine are well over $300 and she wants to keep costs lower. Maybe after she sees mine, she'll boost the budget

I like the Nikon buckmaster 2 I got mine on eBay new but a display for $95 it's a good clear scope and has the bullet drop compensatory reticle I don't now new price now but I think is worth it by the way it's a 3x9x I think 40

I do have A FullField II 4.5-14X AO on one rifle I plan to show sis-n-law today. Clarity of optics is as good as any scope I have for twice the money. It is the best scope I own for the money. But, little things are annoying...like the rubber ring on the rear adjustment of the scope is coming off, with little use. I really dislike cheesy cheap options like that to save money. I'll be showing her 5 different scopes, so a decision should be likely. She is a smart decisive woman so we'll see. I'll let you know what I do...rather, what she does.

OK...the landscape has shifted. Took my rifles with scopes to the farm. A full strutting turkey was in the field at 200 yds so sis-n-law got to eyeball the proud bird through 5 different scopes. Her favorite was my Bushnell Elite 4500 with side focus....not a $200 scope. So with the now moving target, we are looking at $300-$400 range. So, additional suggestions are again welcome.

Day in day out, hard to go wrong with Leupold....sorry, if I sound like a broken record....

I think the first Zeiss Conquest (and good glass) were in that range, but fully stand to be corrected....

Troy,

Ya only 6x tho, I did he a 6x weaver for some years, so it's not to much scope. It just seems I always leave my scopes on 4x when hunting. I like the peace of mind with fix power scopes

just looked at the Leupold site, both the 6 and the 4 have been discontinued....if you find one, consider buying it...

what a shame...

When I started upgrading the scopes on my rifles a few years ago, the one rifle I left as is was my Elite 4200 on a .270. I really like the scope and have heard the 4200 and 4500 are pretty similar.

I talked to a guy at the Bushnell Outlet about new versions of the Elite series. He directed me to the Nitro series. Has anyone had ezxperience with them. I can get killer discounts on them with some of my memberships....NRA, MCRC, KSRA. May have to try one myself. Appreciate any feedback. Tom

Looks like we have a winner.......The sis-n-law with my urging will probably select a Bushnell Nitro with Multi-X reticle and 2.5-10X variable power ($210 with MSRP of $350) on a Savage Lady Hunter .243. The 2.5X setting will suit her well when she stalks deer in the woods; the 10X when the deer are out in the pasture at distance from her tree stand. It's all looking good. Thank you guys for the help.

I’d be interested in your thoughts after you get a chance to use it.

If I were shopping for something in the price range, I’d have gotten a VX-3. Price on them has dropped way down and the one’s I have are excellent. I haven’t gotten a new scope in years, so I’d be interested in a comparison

I'm eager to try it too. I have VX II, VX III, VX 3, and VX 3i, all are very nice scopes. My favorites are the VX 3 3.5-10X 40mm and a VX 3i 3.5-10X 40mm. But, am eager to try the Bushnell Nitro. They quit making the Elite 4500 which I really like and the sales guy says the Nitro series is very similar and I'm paying about $150 less. So, yeah, I'm really hoping for the best. BTW, where are you seeing VX 3 for low prices?

Too bad the Nikon didn't work out, I've always liked them..
Burris Fullfield. Name keeps popping up, but for a good reason.
Leupold Freedom line scopes. Can't go wrong with anything they make. You could also go to a step above in their next line. I'd always recommend going a bit more for good glass... (if you can)
Primary arms is good, at least their AR scopes are...
Vortex doesn't get a lot of love, but they can be good. I have one on my .243 Remigton 700 that's really clear. It's one of the less expensive models, Crossfire II I believe.
