Been watching the Sharpes tv show on dvd lately and of course had the urge to go make holes in paper with my Jager flintlock rifle (Pedersoli) . I wouldn't of passed inspection cause when I started to load I saw some black crud in the "cup" of the ram rod , no rust tho . I must of missed it when cleaning the rifle last time I shot . Everything else was spot less but it surprised me I had missed that spot . Anyone else ever have a surprise when they went to shoot ? I new a guy who said he went to shoot a rifle , can't remember what it was , and forgotten a barrel band and after a few shots the top hand guard bouced off .

I've forgot my membership badge, earpro, targets, ammo, screwdrivers, batteries, tape/staples, chronograph, even guns.

Luckily I'm 5 minutes from the range so I'm punished minimally for the error

Sounds like *Guard Duty* for you this night and you'll see your rum-ration halved at the least.

Todd.

I am lucky living in the country and have a safe place to shoot . Built a shooting berm long time ago which is good cause many times I have to walk back up to the house to get stuff . Wrong ammo , staples for the stapler , forgot ear muffs once and fired one shot and said screw that and went and got them . Once in awhile will meet friends at the range they shoot at for fun cause shooting with others is nice but if I am working up different loads or working on a project gun its nice having place to myself and not worrying about other shooters . Have seen some knot heads at there range before , nothing unsafe really but stuff would make you scratch your head .

I forgot to turn off my chronograph once when I put it away. So the next time I got to the "range," my chronograph's battery was dead. Luckily, as I've said before, our "range" is a county gravel pit about 2 miles south of the house. So I used my cell phone to call my wife and have her bring me a new battery.:neener:
After that incident, I started keeping a spare battery taped inside my chronograph. However, I've never forgotten to turn the darned thing off again.:D

Uploaded pictures of a rifle fired when the bore sight gage was not removed. Luckily, not me! When I looked for this, I found more than one account of someone doing this.

I mine the clubs 25 yard back stop for lead. Take a 100 pounds or so as needed.
Two summers ago I came across several pieces of ram rod, wooden buried. I kept the brass fittings they are around the gun room somewhere. I surmise that some one forgot to remove it and shot it down range.

Apparently neglected to unload and clean the muzzleloader at the end of the season...mid-December here. Between the year end rush at work and the rush into the holiday's, I missed it. Following year, evening before the night before the season, went to snap a cap to clear any oil in the nipple before loading new for the next morning's zero check. Stepped onto the rear deck, pointed the gun at the ground (safe rural area) and BOOM! Door was open, house filled with smoke, and had to scrape the wife off the ceiling. Should have left her there a little longer.

Got a friend who forgot and left a muzzleloader loaded and few weeks later just grabbed it to go make some smoke and noise in back yard (lives in country) and RELOADED it and fired it . Ruined the muzzleloader but kept his face and hands , some cuts and numbness for awhile is all . Lucky . His wife said the windows rattled something fierce I said "bet it did" !!!

I usually forget at least one item everytime I go shoot, always random too. Best one was I took a friend to the range I frequent which is an hour away. He kept asking about different types for firearms and I figured, let's go shoot a few that I had that were close to what he was looking at so he could get an idea of how they handled should he buy one of his own. I also decided to bring some steel targets to setup at 200 yards and my Savage 308 that I have been working on getting setup the way I want it.

I uncased that rifle and my buddy was definitely interested in shooting it and so I figured I would load up a mag and let him blast away at the steel. Go to my range bag to pull one of the two mags I own for it and guess what I forgot that range trip.......both magazines. Single feeding that rifle is not difficult but sure is less fun than using the magazine.

Years ago I drove 65 miles to a Cowboy match. When I got there I realized that I had forgotten my ammo. Luckily for me there was a vender at the match selling ammo. It cost me a bit but at least I had ammo.
When I got back to my truck to finish getting ready I realized that the ammo I left behind for the match was sitting right next to the gun box with my revolvers in it...MY REVOLVERS!?

I had not only left my ammo behind but also my six shooters. While cussing under my breath I put everything away, got into my truck and went home.

I have forgotten other little things since, like; ear plugs or marker pens, but that was the worst “boo-boo” I have made in this regard.

The two Post citing AD/ND of muzzle loaders reenforces the need to assume all guns are loaded.
The easiest way I found to do that with black powder rifles, muskets , shot guns or single shot pistols is with the ramrod. Rods for mine are marked with empty and normal charge marks.
Of course one now has to remember to check or store the piece with the rod inserted in the barrel.

Same here . Both my muzzleloaders 1861 Springfield and a Jager flintlock both Pedersoli got scratch marks for loaded/unloaded on their ramrods . Even with that I still give them the bounce test before loading .

Don't feel bad I launched my boat without putting both plugs in what a mess. welcome to my world
I once watched someone try to launch their boat with it still strapped to the trailer. They kept backing down further and further into the water because they couldn’t figure out what was going on. Eventually they figured it out, but by that time the straps were so tight there was no way to get them loose so they decided to pull the boat back up the ramp. The big problem was that the motor was still down and the propeller bounced a couple times on the concrete and then came off.

Last visit to the range I forgot a magazine. I’ve started keeping extra hearing protection, glasses, and targets in the trunk of my car for those times when stuff gets forgotten.

I've told this tale before here but...
15,or so, years ago I drove over to Missouri to attend a primitive archery gathering and, upon arrival I realized that I'd left my quiver of arrows at home. No problem I thought, I'll just find my buddy Tracey's camp and borrow some. walked over to where he'd set up his tipi and he greets me with," Hi Paul, I forgot my quiver. Can I borrow some arrows?"
True story. :)
