Ruger sr1911

I bought mine back around either 2012 or 2013. I like it. When I first got it I did have a small issue. I would randomly get hit in the head with spent brass when shooting it about once every magazine or two. I did some research & sat the tension on the extractor & the issue went away. Other than that it has always been fine. I haven't shot it as much as some others because it is the 5" version & I usually carry something else that is easier to conceal. I do like it.

I had the 5” version a few years back. Took it to the range a couple times, always with other 1911 45’s. I started noticing the Ruger was always dirtier than the others (powder residue). A gunsmith told me the Ruger action was opening sooner than the actions on my other 1911’s. A stronger recoil spring might have made a difference here, but having several 45’s I decided to sell the Ruger.
The Ruger was combat accurate and cycled everything i loaded in its mag.

Bought mine back in 2011 when they first came out. It has been 100 percent reliable with ball and 200 grain semiwadcutter reloads. No problems, broken parts etc. in approx. 2000 rounds. Gun has most of the bells and whistles that folks want in a modern non-GI 1911.

My son has a SR1911. It's a great shooting pistol. No issues.

I’ve got the standard 5 inch one and it has been a great gun. The only con is I bought a Colt Competition 1911 in 9mm about 6 months after the Ruger and shoot it much more than the Ruger now! It’s cheaper to feed.

I have one I purchased in '14. I haven't put a ton of rounds through it, probably less than 1,000 but it's fairly accurate and has always gone bang. Seems to be the best 1911 in it's price range. I've heard it described as the best in the sub-$1000 1911.

My commander is from '14, been absolutely trouble free.
I shoot it along side other 1911's that cost 2 to 3 times a much, I really cant tell much of a difference between them.

I had a commander SR1911 and it was a solid mid range 1911. All the features I like in a 1911 without stuff I don't need for a nice price.

Mine shot well, had a good trigger and was very reliable*. A solid gun.

*With the supplied 7 round mags. For it to run perfectly with 8 round Wilson and CMC mags I had to adjust the tension on the extractor, a 5 minute task and it ran perfect afterwards regardless of mag or ammo.

I'm more accurate shooting factory 230 gr fmj with my Commander-sized Ruger 1911 .45 than I am with my Springfield Loaded 5" 1911 .45. Both are good guns, the Ruger sights just seem to work for me better I guess.

A good gun, you can't go wrong with one.

Stay safe.

I'm sure Novak Sights would say, "See we told you so."

I also had a Commander that was trouble-free, except for one occurrence of FTRTB on aluminum-cased junk. Very accurate, nice extended controls. Why did I ever sell it?

My SR1911CMD is accurate, reliable, and good-looking imho. So much so that I sold my other 1911.
The ruger will digest my reloads that failed to go into battery on my other 1911.

I've got the Commander size in .45, and, other than having to add an ambi safety, it's been rock solid for me, and I would recommend them. Just wish the 9mm came in the same wood grip configuration.

Can you get extra magazines for them from Ruger? This would be an everyday carry gun so I would like to have more than just 8+1 rounds.

I own five of them. Two 5” and three commander length pistols. One of my commander pistols is light weight alloy frame. The other two are stainless steel frames and one of those is a 9MM. I’ve never had any issues with any of them. All have trigger pulls in the 3 to 4 pound range that break very cleanly. If you are looking for an excellent 1911 format pistol without having to spend more that $1000 the Ruger SR1911 would be my recommendation.

To me, what sets the Ruger apart from all others is the plunger tube being cast into the frame. All others are a separate part staked to the frame. This is a weak link in the frame design. While most owners overlook this point as inconsequential, just wait until one fails on you, then it’s catastrophic.

I had an early 5" 45 and accuracy was so-so I ended up upgrading to a Colt Combat Elite. Now I have a 10mm SR1911 that shoots very good.

In the lightweight commander, there's a titanium insert in the feed ramp that keeps it from getting gouged up by magazine followers, as can sometimes happen in aluminum-framed 1911s. Neat bit of engineering, I think.
