The Enfield No.1 topic did so good so, I decided to start one on the No4’s
Here are my No.4’s. I just have MKI’s and MkI*’s. I don’t have any MkI.5 or Mk2’s. I only had one Mk2 make it into my collection once, but it ended up going to a good friend.

I remember back in the 80’s Enfields were cheap, but I didn’t start collecting them until 2007. I guess that as a new Collector in the 80’s all the different model numbers were confusing and I just stayed away from them. Just think how many I would have if I had started buying them when they were dirt cheap.
I’ll try and get some pics of each rifle tomorrow.
So let’s see those No.4 Enfields.

I want one. Sadly im getting into old firearms when it looks like im going to have to spend $1k for each rifle

My contribution to the Mk IV gallery is in the Mk III thread... o_O.

But I’ll repost this bit of lend-lease history. Lend-lease was the quickest workaround to supporting the anti-Nazi cause with war materiel at the time and really helped England during their darkest hour:

I also just realized my Mk IV was born the same year my Mother was, 1943. This was the same year my Grandfather was stationed with his USMC unit on Kodiak Island awaiting the Japanese invasion that never came, and my Great Uncle was a clerk with an Army supply depot in Philadelphia as a 46 year old private. ( He volunteered as a 44 year old in 1941 after Pearl.)

Stay safe.

Well, certainly not original, but shoots straight and kills a lot of deer for the freezer:) Disclaimer - This rifle was original but last 6-7" of the barrel was trashed. Tumbled at 25 feet! Sat in the back of the closet for 30 something years before I cut the barrel back to good rifling, 17.25" and made a "Tanker"....then found an old sporter stock and dropped it in that. Been my baby ever since!

Thanks Gunny !....... Another Lee-Enfield themed thread. A good cabin fever reliever. Here's that #4 Mk I * That I sporterized back around 1995-96. Felt a little guilty even back then, but nothing was cut or hacked or drilled; even the scope mount was a no gunsmithing deal, and I kept all the original stuff that was removed, as it's an all matching numbers gun. Put it all back to original a couple months ago and was posting about it here on THR. Was able to send that synthetic sporter stock to another THR member who has a bubba'd Lee-Enfield so I was glad someone could use it. Don't know if they are still available. Haven't even had it out to the range yet since it was un-sporterized but it's a good shooter and I have .303 handloads that this gun really likes. Only problem now is with my senior eyes and those original iron sights, which means my groups may not be as tight as when it had that 4-12x Redfield scope on it... LOL ......... Here's the before and afters.............

Looks great. At the crazy prices Enfields are selling for these days, you’re looking at a starting price point of $500 on a clean rifle in military dress.
I have my eye on a couple more that I might add to my collection.

My father in the late 60's purchased a .303 British Enfield for 45 dollars from a LGS in New Jersey. He said that they were in a barrel and you pick out which one you want! I believe the GS was Rays Sport Shop.

I grew up shooting Lee-Enfield rifles and have wanted one for years. I bought this unfired No4 MK2 about 10 years ago. I'd really like to buy another that's still in the wrap but they're hard to find. These days I only want bolt action rifles with locking bolt handles so it's Accuracy International, Kimber, and Lee-Enfield in my safe. I have one Remington to dispose of but it'll be gone soon enough. I think the way the bolt locks on the Lee-Enfield is clever, and simple.

over the years i had 16-17 of them, but this 1943 long branch was the best shooter of any i shot and i kept it. all number match(even the magizine) with a ex barrel. 174 gr hornady at 2300 fps is a accurett and deadly deer round.

I'm loving those pictures showing the markings on the guns. All matching guns are awesome, but I even love looking over arsenal rebuilds with mixed-matched parts. (Like my Garands and M1 Carbine, not all are original parts on any of them.) Each part with a manufacturer's stamping or stock with an inspector's cartouche' is a little slice of history preserved with each mark, and one can just imagine the places these battle-damaged-yet remade guns have been to require such repair .

Gunny has about 10,000 words worth of history in the first sets of pictures he posts on these Enfield threads :).

Stay safe.

my long branch went thu a rebuild in 1946. but didn,t get any new parts added. it must have not seen much hard use pre or post rebuild. it did shoot a little high so i added a higher front sight blade.

It’s been raining, but should clear up today. If it does, I’ll get some detailed pics.

These are from the third rifle from the left in my group pic.
It’s a Savage No.4 Mk1, but the 1 is missing in the Model stamp.
It’s New Zealand stamped, but if you look close you can see that the wrist socket has been scrubbed and renumbered. It is also stamped as a DP (Drill Purpose) rifle. The butt stock has a white strip with a yellow hash mark that has red over it. This rifle was never converted to a non shooter, it is still fully functional. The bolt is not a Savage bolt but it does match the SN# on the wrist socket.
The magazine has been scrubbed of markings and refinished at some time , but has a Savage follower.
I traded for this rifle just for the cool factor and don’t plan to shoot it.
