Hey yall. I just purchased a new Buckmark Camper (stainless/hi vis sights), but have yet to receive it. I have wanted one for several years now, but just now decided to purchase one. I have owned a Ruger MKIII for approximately 9 years, with no problems, but I wanted something different. Is there anything I should know about the Buckmark as a new owner (also first Browning)?

I had a Buckmark several years ago and it was a great shooter. I never found any ammo that it didn't like. I now have a Ruger 22/45 Lite and it works just fine as well but if I had a choice I would want the Buckmark back. Enjoy.

A few years back I bought a Browning Buckmark URX and though it hasn't been to the range much, it has always impressed me when it has. I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about it other than needing a tool to disassemble (to remove the bolt/slide)

Mine is great. The sights and trigger are excellent. I got mine used and it seemed to have been shot a lot. The allen bolts holding top together would loosen a bit if I shot enough rounds through it in a session. Some blue locktite fixed that problem.

On most days it's my most accurate handgun. I highly recommend them.

As mentioned, the top screws can loosen, so keep an eye on those. Unless you shoot a lot, there is not much need to take down to clean. I think the manual explains that (been a long time since I looked). The trigger is usually great out of the box. There are some tweaks that can be done on the trigger, if you really want it better. Don't take the grips off unless you find a really good video about what springs not to lose.

Bought one a few years back, love it. Feels like a very solid piece, eats everything, and the trigger is great right out of the box. A friend had his Ruger trigger worked on, then shot mine and felt mine was nicer.

You can lighten the trigger pull by flipping the spring. Very easy to do, even for me with no gunsmithing skills. It's called the Heggis flip, and there are several videos you can follow.

Magazines are also available on Ebay for under $25 shipped.

Enjoy your new gun!

Until I began researching the Buckmark series of pistols, I did not know it was so easily modified with additional barrels, sights, etc. Although I thought of getting a Ruger MKIV, with how easily they disassemble, I wanted something different. It appears that the Buckmark is an extremely well thought out design. Although I went with the round bull barrel, I think I like the look of the slab side barrels better and may eventually purchase an extra barrel.

I swapped a barrel. I bought one pistol, then was in the shop a week or so later. Owner said, hey, I have the consecutive serial number to your Browning. So, I had to buy that one too.
Sometime later, I was ordering some Browning parts and, what the heck, just get a barrel to make them different. Buckmark.JPG

The great thing about the BM is the barrel isn't the serial numbered part like a Ruger.

They are excellent .22s.

That's the only issue I have with mine. Just make sure to bring some hex wrenches to the range and tighten slightly after 250 or so rounds if you don't want to use Loctite. It's a minor issue, but that screw does loosen up in time.

Years ago I bought a Buckmark. The primary reason I went with it over a Ruger was I wanted a more traditional grip angle, but I don't care for the polymer frame Ruger forces you into if you get the 22/45. It's been very reliable (and accurate). I've since picked up a bull barrel Mark I, and both get shot equally and I can't say I have a favorite.

The Heggis flip has already been mentioned. The other thing I'll say is you don't need to disassemble it to clean it. I've had mine for 7 years and put thousands upon thousands of rounds through it, and finally took it apart for the first time this winter.

To clean, lock the action back, hold it over a trash can and spray the heck out of it with brake parts cleaner.

I agree with the input you've already gotten. Great guns, super accurate. Screws do tend to back out, so de-greasing them and maybe a dot of blue loctite when reassembling is not a bad idea. Excellent triggers OOB in my experience and opinion. Don't remove grip panels casually... as others have noted, they're functionally sideplates and hold in a lot of the lockwork. Several little fiddly parts that are easy to loose (sproing!) and not fool-proof to reinstall (though I've done it a number of times). Stripping the upper is very easy, though.

I have a stainless camper model with the hi viz sights as well, but mine is about 15 years old now so they may have made some changes. The only problem I've had is the top screws can loosen up. Resist the urge to crank them down extra tight as the tapered screw head will split the plastic base for the rear sight. I did that to mine after a couple years and several thousand rounds of ammo through it. Parts were easy to find at the time and it was not problem to fix, but its kind of frustrating. I would definitely use loctite from now on.

I've got two Buckmarks.

I wasn't in the market for one but I was looking for a Ruger MkII 10". I came across two varieties of the Buckmark with 10" barrels before I found my Ruger.

Since I have a soft/stupid spot in my heart for long barreled handguns I bought both of them.

So I know own three 10" barreled 22 auto pistols and a 12" barreled H&R revolver.
