I am browsing around for a replacement barrel and came across SARCO hammer forged barrels. I know nothing other than I have heard of them. Says they are made in the USA also.

I'm kind of intrigued with the 6" barrel for my Colt Govt 1911 .45

Anyone have knowledge they would care to share would be appreciated.

M-14, the Roto-Forged (?) barrels that Sarco has sold for years are garbage :barf:, they are on the soft side and dimensionally....meh.

If you want a decent barrel but don't want to spend the money on a Kart, Bar-Sto, etc try RemSport. Watch their Deal of the Day specials.
Ok, I'm updating my post as I see RemSport has a 1911 5" Government .45 Barrel Non Ramped w/Bushing Link and Pin. for 85 bucks until 05/09/20.

Also, avoid anything from John Masen Company:barf::barf: 1911 wise.

FWIW, I have used KART, BarSto, Wilson, Schuemann, Storm Lake, etc. RemSport was new to me, but I decided to "take a chance" and try one of their 1911 9MM barrels. I can say the RemSport was very nicely finished in and out. The hood fit was perfect in my particular pistol (a 38 Super Kimber), barrel lugs and feet did need fitting. Overall, a quality barrel for a moderate price. By the way, reliability with the RemSport barrel was flawless from the start, with a wide variety of ammunition. Seems like I paid $110.00 or so for mine, so that sale price mentioned sounds like a bargain to me. Forgot to add, I didn't get the bushing, link and pin with mine.

I had a sarco barrel in the late 90's using standard pressure ammo. A portion of the chamber just disappeared. I examined the gun because all of a sudden it became wildly inaccurate. I will not buy another sarco barrel.

Short story...

I worked with a Navy Vet 35ish years ago. He said when he was discharged, he turned in his sidearm frame and took the rest with him. That's the story anyway. So I got it for $40 if I remember correctly, and bought an Auto Ordinance frame, then had a well known gunsmith friend put it together. I have no idea what the barrel has seen for use.

I have only occasionally shot it because I cannot hit the broad side of an outhouse. It has always been in the back of my mind to re-visit it and get a new barrel to see if that would make it more fun to shoot, instead of just spraying lead in a general direction.

Now that I have some free time, I thought it would be a good opportunity to go ahead with it.

I wouldn't buy another one, but I had a "Roto" comp barrel back in the early 90s. I was shooting some PPC and just wanted to play with a comp barrel cheap. It doesn't have much if any affect on a 45 except a little longer bore and weight out front. It didn't fit up the best but ran fine. It's the only 45 barrel I ever played with at 100 yards. Holding a full front sight blade high, it would thump a 6" plate 8 out of 10 times. I gave it to a buddy some years later.
I've built on RemSport frames/parts back when they were available and they were great.

Only experience I've had with replacement barrels was with Remsport. Picked up a brand-new BHP barrel for $126 back in 2017. Needed some minor fitting so I sent my hi-power to Remsport, they fitted and test-fired it and had it back to me in a couple weeks. Barrel is exceptional.

I went ahead and ordered one from Remsport today, too good to pass up... I did not see where they are located though. I know some locals are shut down for the wu-flue...thing....

This is just a single data point and something to consider. Also, I have no experience with the Sarco barrels.

I have a Thompson 1911. It shoots reliably after a little TLC. On a lark, I replaced the OEM Thompson barrel with a Colt Mk IV Series 70 barrel that I removed from a Colt when I install a 38/45 Clerke barrel in the Colt. The Colt barrel had about 3000 rounds through it.

The accuracy of the Thompson 1911 improved with the used Colt barrel.

I feel the Colt barrel was more carefully manufactured than the Thompson barrel. Maybe not.

Anyway, I feel quality barrels are worth the expense in 1911's.

But, like I said, it is a sinlge data point.

Welll... Imagine my surprise when the mailman delivered a package today. Couple swipes with a file and it fits. Just took some ancient Rem 230's to go irritate the neighbors, and wouldn't you know it but I was knocking soda cans into the next zip code. Never did that before, and I haven't thrown lead out of it in I don't know how long.

I just need to do a little polishing to match my ramp, but I just had to try it, pretty pleased.
