Another Pony in the Barn...

I've been looking for a 4.2" Python, since I bought my 6" one a couple of months ago. My dealer wasn't having any luck, so I started looking online and found one at Sportsman's Warehouse. I picked it up yesterday and cleaned it up a bit this morning.







I can't find a thing wrong with this one. The crown looks great. There isn't a scratch on it (there was nothing wrong with my 6" one either). The trigger is a little heavier than the 6" one, but Colt has made some modifications to stop the light strike problem some of the first ones had. It's still a very good trigger, just a little heavier, and still as smooth as a baby's butt. All the screws were tight, but I'll still be watching them when I do get to shoot it.

A lot of people don't like the grips, but I do. I think the more muted color looks good against the "white" metal, but most importantly they feel great in my hand.

I don't know when I'll get a chance to shoot it. Our governor still has the ranges shut down, but I'm looking forward to it.

Well, I won't argue that point, but I have to give credit to the devil when it's due. I just got an email from the VCDL that says indoor shooting ranges will be able to reopen next Friday, the 15th. The usual "social distancing" rules will apply, which means only half occupancy, so longer wait times (or time limits...just ME thinking out loud) but at least they will be open again.

Funny. I know a lot of people really like the short barrel ones, but I just don't have much interest. I've got a 2" Cobra (2019) that's one of my two carry guns, but that's the only one I have in that class.

Well, I know the 6" one does. It's got 800 or so rounds of mostly 357 ammo through it before they closed the ranges for the Corona. I did have to tighten the sideplate screws once at about 500 rounds, but they haven't come loose again.

I'm a really lousy shot, but it seems to work pretty well. This was only from 21 feet, but it was D/A.



Word is the ranges will open again Friday, with "social distancing" rules in place. I may let the first mad rush die down a bit before I try to get in.

I remember the Smoult or Smython, (and the Cougar...a Colt Barrel on a Ruger "Six" frame). Man, I wanted one of those "back in the day." All the cool kids had them.

I was NOT a cool kid.

Sportsman's Warehouse is showing them in stock right now. (1432). They will ship to your FFL.
