Any other possible contenders or thoughts for a basic belt set-up to consider?
The industry standard is The Wilderness Tactical Instructor Belt ( https://www.thewilderness.com/belts/original-instructor-belt/ ) or Frequent Flyer Belt ( https://www.thewilderness.com/belts/frequent-flyer-belt/ ) typically chosen in the 5-stitch variety for carrying a gun. Their new model is the Low Profile EDC belt ( https://www.thewilderness.com/belts/lowpro-edc-belt/ ).

The Instructor and Frequent Flyer belts are so common/popular note a couple of places that carry them

I've worn a 5 stitch Wilderness instructor belt almost every day for the last 7/8 years while carrying either a G19 and spare mag or a 2&1/2" 686 with double speed loaders. Had the velcro reconditioned a year ago or so. Hard to beat, especially for the price

I have the Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt. Recently bought a similar belt from an outfit called Blue Alpha. Works great with a LW 1911, phone, magazine. Get the one with the reduced size buckle which fits most belt loops.

I use a Kore nylon belt as my daily carry belt. Has been supporting my carry firearms for about 5 years now. Nylon friction belts have never been good carry options for me.

Thanks guys! I'll look into those. I was pondering that those ratchet adjustments might be nice feature. What are your thoughts on that to Velcro adjusting?

For clarity, on the Wilderness Instructor belt, the velcro just holds the excess belt tab. The buckle is what locks the belt down for adjustment.

I have the Kore X1 and it’s a good stiff belt. Carries a Glock 20 in a Bianchi OWB Holster just fine.

Good links, gentle[persons]. Bookmarked.

I have a 5.11 instructor belt which appears to be nearly identical to the Wilderness one.

Leather belts are nice, but don't always look appropriate. And many of the nylon belts look too tacticool.

My favorite belt is my Wilderness Frequent Flyer 5 stitch. Comfortable, easily adjustable for when I’m carrying or not. Strong enough to hold up my Super Redhawk 7.5” barrel when hunting, and makes me forget my Walther PPS is being worn IWB when not hunting. Great product.

I use a classic 3 stitch no stiffener wilderness tactical Instructor belt at work for 15 years to hold my scrubs up. It works well & you can wash it. But for a cheap CCW belt it works well too. I prefer old school leather. I have had good luck with Leather belts from Fist & Beltman but these also wear out quicker at about the 5-8 year mark. YMMV

I have a black Kore nylon tactical concealed belt (the concealed nylon has a plastic insert to keep it stiff a regular nylon has no stiffness added). It works, believe it has the X1 buckle, and they do make a few other buckles. I also have an Anson concealed carry belt, very similar to Kore but a lot more buckles to pick from; it is also a track (slider) type belt. Also, the Anson appears to be better made; I guess time will tell. And the kore is a few years old and still looks good.

I also have two core concealed carry leather belts and I DO NOT recommend them. They wear too easily where the holster sits. They did replace the first one, but the replacement wore in the exact same place. The wear is covered by the holster, but still...

Also, the plastic insert to stiffen the belts in both leather belts also broke too easy. Again, does not cause a major problem, just not too happy. In fact, since my dress clothes (after retiring) are jeans (ok, all my pants are jeans) I have started to just wear one of the two nylon tactical concealed belts (black Kore, grey Anson).

However, I will say that when I worked and carried a gun full time with extra mags and other things on my belt; I used a very stiff well made leather belt and never really had a problem. Usually, under a suit or sports jacket.

I have a 511 wilderness belt and its nice but the steel buckle is very heavy. I picked up a Bison Last Chance Heavy Duty Belt and the buckle is aluminum and thus much lighter (by 1/3) but very similar in construction to the 5.11. The belt is not quit as stiff as the 5.11 making it more comfortable but still plenty stiff for good gun carry. A lot cheaper too.
