Inspired by @Hokkmike 's thread on impulse buying and some of the posts on that thread, I began thinking about 2 categories of gun purchases.
1 I am so happy I got this gun!
and
2 Why, in the name of all that goes bang, did I buy this thing??

For me, #1 would be my first gun purchase, my first Python.
#2 would be the COP .357 tur..... er..... derringer.

I am so happy I bought a Dan Wesson SilverBack 1911!
Pure joy in steel, it feels as though they made it for me alone. With groups smaller than my hand at further than I thought I could do it.
It is almost like it reads my mind.

My Sig P-938 however, is, not what I thought it would be. It is nice. I guess. It is Self Defense accurate, that is what I’ll call it.
It is not light enough to stay on me, but not heavy enough to stay put in my hand. It is nice looking though. But the sharp lines poke and show in a pocket. And a gun that small on the belt seems silly, since it won’t be any easier to conceal.
So, there it sits, in my safe, staying pretty.

Ok, I’ll be the first one for this category:

#1 my 1911s

#2 my Glocks - I’m not a basher, I have a handful of them. Just don’t shoot them, don’t want to, they give me no joy. Three of them I haven’t shot yet. When I start selling for retirement they will be the first to go.

Yay! Single Six. Didn't really want it, not into cowboy guns, but the price was right even if it was filthy. Man what a great gun! Kinda love cowboy guns now.

Oy! Colt Commander in 9mm. Was expecting to love it, but I never did, and it never once produced a target that made me proud. Best thing about it was the horse stamped into the metal which insured a substantial return when it went down the road. Put me off of 1911's

Dunno, some of mine will be blurred.
When I bought my Universal Carbine, it was a "yay." It was only later, in using it that it became an "oink."
My Marlin 1895 was a "yay," but was really just "meh" for me.
My AMY Hardballer was a "yay," but was "meh." (Randomly tossing cases between my eyes was under-endearing.)
The Sistema I bought started as "meh" but quickly became "yay."

YAY! Ruger 77 Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger, McMillan Hunter stock, Leupold VX-R 2-7x33. I have no need of a dangerous game rifle, but this one is a blast, and with the right loads works for any medium to big game. I like the cartridge and I like the launcher.

OY! Every lever action I've ever owned, and that's been quite a few. I really want to like them. I've had a couple of Marlin 336 .30-30s, including a nice straight-stocked Texan. I've had 1894s in .357 and .44 Magnum. I've slicked 'em up and tricked 'em out, but none of them held my interest. Don't have a lever of any sort anymore. Same thing with 1911s. They just don't do it for me. And like lever actions, I had to own several before drawing that conclusion.

Yay gun was definitely my Model 66-2 I got last month...

OY!!! Was a Colt Officers ACP a few years ago, I didn't have the cash so when I saw an ad on my local classifieds I went bananas looking for what to trade, (I had always wanted a Colt 1911 badly) I traded a stainless super blackhawk and remjngton 870 police model... First time at the range and the bushing was sent down range and broke spent cash on getting a new one and the gun was not reliable

Yay! Lots of em, but my new Sistema from a member here is getting all my attention right now.

OY... not a gun, but a stripped 20 gauge 1100 special field receiver. I had hoped to create a dove-downing magic wand with it but this was 4 years ago and it’s still nekkid

They're all yay.

One of the only oy guns I ever bought was a mosin nagant, I know some people like them but I think they're not only hideous but crudely made and not worth the $70 some people used to buy them for.

Also oy, also some people favorite- a 10/22 in a tapco goof ball stock, I hated that gun more than the mosin, let's just say it was ergonomically challenged and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough (and I like ruger a lot).

That's why they make so many different guns, some people like weird stuff.

Yay:
10-4 from my LGS. Not in great shape and not particularly rare but I'm glad to have one now.

Ruger SBH from a member here which is definitely a favorite of mine

Ruger BH in 357 which I love shooting

Oy:
Century arms coach gun which I bought for 200 and sold for 100 recently. That gun was not nearly as fun as I thought it would be and I blame the shoddy workmanship and the big chinese stamp on the side  I was glad to sell at a loss just so it wouldn't take up room in the safe. Hope to never feel that way about a gun again

My yays are my 240 Wby, M65 S&W, and Weatherby PA459.
My cursed one is a Sig Mosquito. It was a POS.
Second was a M38 6.5x55. I really wanted one until I had it. My niece loves it though.

1. My first Ruger Blackhawk. It was a 7.5" model in .45 Colt. I have since added 2 more, and I'm not done yet.

2. A Smith and Wesson Sigma. One of the early crappy ones. I chalk this one up to being young and dumb.
