You're a time traveler, aren't you? ;)

You got me.

Only in the usual direction at roughly the same speed as the average person though for now. I'll update with any progress on that front

Bonus throwback to sometime before 2012. RG40 .38 Special. I like to consider my Enfield as the spiritual successor to this gun.

50 year anniversary of Missouri Highway Patrol commemorative edition Model 60. 129 grain +P Federal Hydro Shok. It's an easy carry.

I notice that I am definitely not alone when it comes to Pachmayer grips.
The reason my Cobra and Detective Special have Hogue grips is everyone was out of stock on Pachmayr at the time.

If I’d known what a pain in the a$$ it is to install Hogue I would have waited for some Pachmayr. The Hogues work fine though.

Did you cut that barrel down, or did you acquire it that way? Looks a little rough around the edges. Have you chrono'ed it?

I did cut it myself. I wanted a smokeless capable snub and didn’t want to do the deed to any of my nicer top breaks so I found that one already plenty rough on gunbroker. It works much better than it looks, in any case.

I haven’t chronographed it though in testing it has about the right effect on various targets to be right about where you would expect. Modern watered down smokeless ammo is probably in the upper 400fps area. The older Winchester Western loads in the nickel cases do better, and my handloads in the speed strip seem a little warmer still. I would guess both fall between 500 and 600 fps.

I'm wondering why you couldn't simply drill and tap for a run of the mill Remington 870 stock brass bead, and install one of them. Or any number of similar threaded tritium/fiber optic shot beads would be wonderful for a threaded front sight. Or like the old Remington 1858's with a simple drove in front sight post, filed on both edges to give light on either side for a good sight picture.

This is exactly what I would do if I go this route. I finally got all my tools out of storage recently and this is one project I've been putting off. Like I said, I'm also tempted to file out a dovetail to match the front sight cut of something that uses the right height of tritium sight. Maybe some type of XS big dot.

Maybe not what most would want on a gun of this vintage, but the utility value seems pretty high on a carry gun.

Pardon my ignorance... but may I inquire as to why you carry... that particular piece, and not something like a S&W 442 ?

Edit: My brain saw 642 instead of 442. A lot of this applies still.

Versus a 642?

The Iver has going for it:

- Shorter cylinder window and smaller overall size

- Heavier frame and lighter loaded cartridge is much easier to shoot quickly

- Better ejection system.

- Less muzzle flash/blast

And as a bonus it also cost me about half of what anyone wants for a beat up 642, and I even prefer the way it fits my hand. Don’t get me wrong, I think the 642 is probably better overall for most people. I do have my reasons for going a different route.

So you carry this thing with round-nose lead ammo?

Only two revolvers I've been carrying lately.

In this caliber, I do. I would be hesitant to use anything with a square nose with the low velocity, and hollowpoints are going to be a waste of time. These even at 500fps will at least use all their energy in penetration and will drive deep enough through a "soft target".

Thumper my little friend. A gift from my GF two years ago.

I was looking for some thing for hiking and horseback in Montana Bear country. 3" .44 spl.
