This short video from a retired Special Forces soldier should be required as phase one of any self, home, family defense program. It covers a lot of things that we hit on the periphery of here but seldom really get into.

All five of the concepts in the video are worth our consideration. THR is a gun forum but here in ST&T we talk about all aspects of self defense. I really believe that the five best weapons covered in the video need to be the foundation on which we build all of the other skills necessary to live a safe and happy life.

Excellent video. Mods, delete this post if it's off topic. About a year ago I had a shot fired across my bow healthwise as I discovered blockages that would have led to the heart attack called the widow maker, most likely within a few months and had stents put in. I saw a nutritionist and changed my diet to focus on fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, I exercise regularly, lost 45 pounds and saw my cholesterol level plummet to a healthy level. Pay attention to your health. As the video points out bad health habits are a risk far greater than the risk of violence many, if not most of us will face.

Good one Jeff.
Before I even started the video, I guessed that our brains would be at least one of the top 5, but our vehicles hadn't occurred to me, esp. not at #2. As Arte Johnson used to say: "Very interesting."

Well after your last shot drop mag or render your rifle safe and run/jog down to that 100 or 200 yard target to check it vs, spotting scope. Carrying the rifle as an option, as you get used to the run pant wheeze chest is tight some and starts to subside.
Ok of course as long as no one is there and you are holding up the firing line.

Very refreshing, as I haven't spent a lot of time on this forum. I was part of a thread on another forum and the general consensus was "I'm a gunfighter, I can solve any problem with my gun". They would make up a situation to justify their opinion, and it was always something so ridiculous that I would NEVER put myself in that situation.

When I was young and got into a problem i couldn't solve, i would run to my parents for help. That's what my gun is, my last resort when i have failed myself and need a force multiplier to make up for my previous mistakes.

Good information but not gun related.
It doesn’t have to gun related in ST&T. ST&T covers a lot of things beside guns. We have talked about knives, less lethal weapons, lights, locks, security systems and more in the past here.

The video goes to mindset and it’s worth a watch even if financial preparation is not something we generally discuss here.

Best post I have seen on THR! Thank you.
Just sent a link to my Son.

I've been making the points in the video in discussions with friends--gum people, and they listen carefully.

Great stuff! People tend to focus on all of the sexy stuff and don't pay enough attention to much more common risks.

I have a minor disagreement with some of the vehicle specifics, however. There are quite a few small cars out there that are highly survivable in a wreck.

The Smart that he denigrates is basically a roll cage; it is actually one of the best cars to be in during a crash. It's total garbage otherwise, but it is highly survivable. Some of those Testosteronemobiles have not-too-good crash ratings. And when you start in with the lift kits & big tires, they can start to get top heavy.

The real point about vehicles is dead on, however. Get something that is known to be reliable and has a good crash rating.

The whole video is excellent. If more people thought like that, they would have fewer problems.
