no reason to post other than sharing. NeveR had the opportunity to turkey hunt, but the smiles on these faces show me what I’ve missed.
Cheers and good hunting to the fortunate few who do.

I hunted turkeys with my dad's old Montgomery Wards Western Field single shot 410 that had a really tight full choke. It worked and allowed me to bag turkeys. It was the only shotgun in the house for quite some time. The main thing to remember with using a 410 is to use one with a good full choke and shorten the range that you will shoot at a turkey. Funny story, I actually got banned from turkey shoots with that old 410 since it had such a tight pattern, I was beating guys with their fancy 12 gauges and they couldn't stand it.

The long standing myth that the 410 is not as powerful as bigger shotguns is wrong. Energy and velocity is about the same as other shotguns, it's that you just have less shot. I grew up hunting with a 410 and still do to this day.

I've never thought about getting a grand slam but now that I think about it, I only need a Merriam's to complete it. I was just turkey hunting in different places over the years. None of my turkeys were killed with a .410 though.
