What was the first cartridge/gun you ever fired?

.22 lr in a Winchester 67. Dad took the traditional route. Red Ryder, Crossman pellet gun then then Winchester. It's like he knew someday those skills would be necessary.

Well that's hard to remember. I'd imagine a .22 lr in some bolt action.

What I do remember is who I shot first with. My Grandpa. We'd drive up north from the cities and he'd show me his gun collection. His switchblades. Bayonets. Showed me and my brother how to shoot guns and pool.

I still own some of his guns after his passing including my very first gun which he bought for me on Christmas. And I own his 40 up north.

Passing on the shooting of pool and firearms to my son and his buddies when they come up.

Thank you Grandpa.

Eight years old. .22LR out of a Winchester 1906. The '06 is still Queen of my gun safe after my Dad gave it to me some years back. It was given to him when he was eight, back in 1940. His Dad owned a General Store, and one day a cheese salesman came in when my Dad was begging for a .22 rifle. My Grandfather wasn't going to give in. Next visit by the salesman, he handed my Dad the '06 from out of his trunk. It was made in 1922, and had already seen quite a bit of use, but it became my Dad's prized possession until he handed it down to me.

First shot was with 22 Short through a Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall. It was US military marked and was reported to be a WWI training rifle. Started me down the path!

I can't remember the specifics, but it was a bolt action 22 at summer camp.
They did not let me shoot it nearly as much as I would have liked, but it was enough to get me hooked!

Either a .22 CB Cap or a .22 BB Cap — can't recall which was first — in a bolt action Remington target rifle, resting on a ladder in the basement because it was too heavy to hold up at about 8 yrs old. They were smaller than a .22 short.

From Wikipedia: The .22 CB Cap (Conical Breech Cap) is a more powerful version of the .22 BB cap (aka: 6mm Flobert) rimfire metallic cartridge, which was invented by Louis-Nicolas Flobert in 1845. The .22 BB Cap and .22 CB Cap are interchangeable and are relatively quiet, low velocity cartridges, designed for indoor target shooting.

They probably don't shoot guns at summer camp anymore.

:( It is sad, is it not?

I have no idea what I first shot.... many cloudy memories. Handguns, rifles and shotguns were always around and visible.

I vaguely recall trips to gravel pits and some sportsman's club that had to be located somewhere near Duluth. Was before kindergarten.

I do recall walking across the lake at my Grandparents cabin/house near Makinen one winter with Dad, Granddad. my uncle and cousin. Dad had a revolver, had to be a 44 special or magnum. (Dad"s favorites were the followings of Elmer Keith) We all took turns shooting it into the snow free lake ice. The reason I remember this is because my cousin was probably too young for that (as was I) because the barrel bounced off his forehead.

I guessing 7 years of age at that time but most likely shot something before that time.:)

Mine was a Browning t-bolt .22 when I was 12 in 1969. My grandfather had left me his .22 Remington tube fed BA, and my Dad said I couldn't shoot it until I had taken Colorado's Hunter's Safety Course. (You couldn't buy ammo without the Hunter's Safety License). Part of the test was shooting 10 rounds with some sort of proficiency (especially showing safe gun handling) using these provided t-bolt rifles. I was so nervous not knowing what to expect, that I just knew I would fail. But I didn't.

The first gun my Dad ever had me fire was an old smoothbore .22 pump action, like the ones at the old shooting galleries at traveling carnivals and county fairs (60 years ago).
The next one was his National Guard M-1. THAT was a rather shocking experience ! After all, I was only 7 at the time. :D

In the fall of 1963 my first was my dad's Mossberg bolt action 16 ga. with a Poly Choke. I couldn't wait to fire it again, and been hunting and shooting ever since. Got my first 22 a few years later. On my 18th birthday I bought my first center fire rifle, a model 70 XTR in 30-06, and three years later on my 21st birthday, my first handgun, a 7½" New Model Blackhawk in 45 Colt.

It was 1962.. My dad's Remington. 22LR
that had gorgeous wood sticks. I think it must have been a semi. Blued almost cobalt blue. Loading tube under the barrel. I was 12. Great memories of:
1. Plinking 2. Hunting for Jack Rabbits.
3. Learning to drive dad's '56 Ford Fairlane with the Ford 312 cu. in.
"Thunderbird" engine. It was totally out in the desert of Southern California about 15 mi. north of Palmdale. In another words, out in the boonies. Only thing to run into were Joshua Trees.
The ice chest always had home made Sandwiches and 16 oz. Big Boy bottles of "Bubble Up" lemon lime soda. Dad passed in early 2004. He sold that Remington while I was away at college in 1969.

My first centerfire handgun was a class mate let me fire his 6" .44 mag Ruger Blackhawk.
They were handloads from wheel weights and shot through 6" fence post no problem.

S&W 66 in 357 Magnum at age 5. Was my fathers service revolver at the time. I’m sure it had 38spl loads in it. But I didn’t care.
