Biggest firearm pet peeve(s)?

For me my pet peeve is to have a sales person giving out bad information to a customer who is new to the shooting industry. I believe this sets a bad precedent that leaves the customer unsatisfied and possibly not ever want to get involved in shooting again. Many times the seller has no idea of the firearms they are selling and they should study up on each possible firearm they carry and give facts only not personal beliefs. I hate hearing every seller that they own that gun.

“I wouldn’t buy a Taurus” from someone who has never bought a Taurus.

Q: What should I buy X (not a Glock) or Y (also not a Glock)
A:Glock 17
A:Glock 19
A:Glock perfection
A:X because it does this and this better than Y

32 sucks from some guy who has no perspective

My personal pet peeve is when people chuckle and mention "tragic boating accident".
Several reasons:
- it is lame, cheesy and unfunny - probably similar to asking a bank teller for "samples" like they don't hear it 10 times a week
-do you really think that you will be able to get away (in hypothetical scenario where America becomes a Gestapo style state), by telling to the confiscators (and later when turned over to the cruel investigators) that your guns were suddenly lost to a "tragic boating accident" ?
-last but not least, as someone said earlier "that means you never plan to stand up for anythin
This^^^^^....it REALLY, REALLY pisses me off when anyone says something as idiotic and absolutely stupid as the “boating accident”. It’s not cute, it’s not original, and it sure isn’t funny.

Usually, if the moderators here see it, they will delete it

This is the first time I heard of "boating accident"... Of course I been away from firearms and shooting for quite some time now...

Many good (or should I say bad) peeves listed. One of mine that I didn't see listed is: A lack of cordiality towards unfamiliar people.

Something I noticed when my Dad would take us boys shooting at the quarry range in Iowa was that all the people we would meet there were uncommonly gracious and quick with a smile. More so than people we would meet on the street. In time, I realized that this was - in part - to put strangers at ease when they were in close proximity to people who were firing deadly weapons. An attitude of kindness and accommodation was indicating to people that you weren't a threat to them and you intended them no harm.

A very very small minority of people at shooting ranges don't get this, however, possibly be cause they either have diminished mental capacity or they're autistic, and I'm not being smug. You certainly don't have to be overly engaging or try to be something that you're not, but when someone is at range glowering or looking very moody...I keep an eye on them.

Well, fanbois--particularly the ones who are die-hard, true, fans, and don't own one, or don't shoot one.

Caliber-warriors are right up there, too. (Although, they could be classified as fanboi.)

Freeloaders of all stripes (and I include Fudds in this).

With "boat accident" I lump the "That's garbage, send it to be and I'll get rid of it for you" crowd.

Caliber-Warriors... Are these the same guys who also claim that the best caliber for personal protection is the .44 Magnum or better? I used to know someone in High School who used to to believe that until an older and wiser gentleman let him shoot his S&W .44 Mag. Later, said Old Man and other shooters the saw what happen, said the Kid when he shot the .44 Mag was holding on to the gun rather lightly, and it flew up and smacked the Know It All right on the forehead...

To bad I wasn't there... The fool watch way too many "Dirty Harry" Movies and the later "Deathwish" ones.

When they put out a custom gun and put some competition shooters name all over it. I like the Ruger custom 9mm 1911 ,but its my gun ,not Koenigs or"S&W offerings" Miculeks for that matter. Im cool with an endorsement or input in design but not with their name plastered on it.

What Bogart a revolver cylinder?

After filling your revolver, putting the box of cartridges in your left pocket and flicking the revolver shut with one hand, dramatically.

If you don’t like revolvers spitting lead at you, don’t do this. It is akin to slamming the front door, that’s not how you use it.

Although I’m not a revolver type, so it doesn’t bother me.

My stepfather warned me about doing that as it could damaged the revolver.

Unsolicited opinions and people wanting to talk to me.

Unsafe firearm handling.

Wannabees berating their children or significant others thinking that they are "teaching them". I don't want to make people overly nervous around firearms but that is just me.

People claiming a .38 Special +p is as powerful as a .357 magnum out of a sub nose revolver. A great example using numerous brands and loads proving otherwise for each round is: https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/revolver-ballistics-test/ and here's
Paul Harrel doing a .38 +p vs. a .357: And in both videos it's obvious that a .357 is far more powerful, it's not even close.

Then related is people saying you need fast powders in snub nose revolvers for best velocity because a slow powder doesn't have enough barrel to burn up the powder. The bottom line is if you want max velocity in a snubby you use the powder that gives the best velocities with a longer barrel. In .357 magnum H110 or 2400 will give higher velocities from a snubby than say Unique or Bullseye.

I typically spend each weekend at my club at a outdoor range. During the middle of the week, will use the local Indoor Pistol ranges. What I hate on local Pistol range is a Sat or Sun which now seems to be AR days. Go by on a Saturday morning and they are lined up to shoot. And they can dump a magazine pretty fast and some can really go through a whole lot of ammo. Totally annoying and I just do not get it. Stopped going on the weekends.
I drive by sometimes just to make me appreciate the club dues and membership fees I pay, the drive which is over a hour and the qualifications involved to be a member. And like good management, they do not offer new memberships but only on certain occasions.

pet peeves about people.

A lack of cordiality towards unfamiliar people.

(Not picking on Y’all, just providing a sample. I couldn’t quote anymore individuals.:))

Like all activities, a huge portion of its enjoyment, or lack there of, resides in the humans one comes in contact with.

I, too, have issues with the behavior of humans, because oftentimes I cannot fix them, despite my actual attempts. I don’t have any firearms Personal Irritants. I can repair/have repaired, adjust, modify, and customize a firearm. Some humans just can’t be fixed. (Can’t recycle them early either...;))

Well, we’re all in this together, keep calm, keep an eye out and keep your stick on the ice!
