Advice on daily carry handgun....

I have to agree with others here on the 19 solely based on your vehicle security issues. Which are you most proficient shooting? This is a major consideration as well. Have you looked into aftermarket vehicle storage systems? Then you could feel better about carrying any of above listed at your leisure.

For ten years after I retired from LE I taught concealed carry certification classes (~1200 people). The most commonly asked question was, "What is the best gun to carry concealed?" My answer was always the same...the one you will have with you!

OP, which of the guns you have listed are you going to carry - every single day? That's the one you choose.

with your list I also suggest the glock 19. If and when you are shopping for a new carry gun check out the hellcat 9mm from springfield.;)

First of all, welcome back!

Let me boil this down to (what I see as) its essentials:

When I see "not carry friendly enviroment," I think offices, schools, gov't buildings. And if you're going to have to leave your gun in the car, I'd go G19. Everything on your list is perfectly serviceable, and in the event that (Heaven forbid) the car is broken into, the G19 will be the cheapest to replace.

With all of that said, I don't know exactly how long you've been away, but there are some fine new pistols on the market, and going for very reasonable prices these days. The subcompact market is booming like never before.
Thank you! I had been away for almost 5 years. Now then in between I tried to play around but not really.

Last week I have opened my safe and started clean my guns and I am just remembered why I loved this hobby to begin with.

I have the g19 since 1990/1 and it has seen some action. I do like p30 for its decocker as it gives me more confidence when a bullet it loaded in the chamber. That said, it is not comfortable to carry for sometimes I carry without holster- dont like the feeling of those rails.

Python I am thinking can be a bit heavy whereas 1911 DW seems just ok. Fine guns though.

g19 I feel like is the way to go when all is said and done. As my son is growing up he is more interested in my old g19 so will see. I might have to part with it after all.

Hello
I have been away from the forum for a very long time. Got extremely bust with recent appointments that have also kept me away from my hobby and in an environment where carrying handgun was not an option. Now...back after a while rusty a bit I am looking at my collection and its a bit hard for me to decide what to carry on daily basis. I am not as young (mid 40s) and look for convenience as well as protection. I do have daily engagements where I end leaving gun safe secured in my vehicle. Not in carry friendly environment all the time. The choice I have to make is among Glock 19, DW Vbob, Python 4" and HK P30. What is your advice?

MY advice would be to carry the one you are most comfortable with VS listen to people online who have zero knowledge on what skills you have with each pistol.

Whichever one you shoot the best. Presuming it is reliable, you will carry it and can do so safely.

If everything else is a draw then and only then I would I default to capacity.

I have acquaintances that carry 1911's because they shoot them better, another that carries a .380 EZ because that's what she shoots and runs best and others that carry a revolver because it's what they trust themselves to carry. All are the right answer for them.

Sage advice.

My advice? Well, of the four, I have experience with three samples of the G19, and one Python. I have heard good things about DW and HK. None of them is likely to be a bad choice, but I am unsure how well Colt will support the older-production-era Pythons, if that is what you have. I believe that one should regularly train with one’s carry gun, or its twin. A G19 is largely user-repairable, and, the least-expensive to have two of them; one for carry, one for training, and, if practicable, one or more in reserve.

Even with a lock-box/safe inside your vehicle, a “car gun” is relatively more vulnerable. Sometimes, one’s entire vehicle disappears, or, is wrecked or flooded. This would make me hesitate to carry the Python, out and about, too much.

I am not anti-revolver, actually tending to carry similar-sized GP100 and Speed Sixes.

A carry gun is relatively more vulnerable to any number of hazards. I have no issue with the idea of toting a $2K+ 1911, for defensive purposes, but I can send my $2K+ pistols to the maker, for repair. In actuality, I presently tend to carry shorter-barreled weapons, than my 5” 1911 pistols, as my aging right shoulder is having range-of-motion issues.

So, of the four choices, in the original post, my answer is the G19. In real life, I am using GP100 and Speed Six revolvers, very similar to the Python, but easier to have repaired, or replace. (My Python did not thrill me, with its accuracy, and I preferred the GP100’s trigger stroke and grip ergonomics, so I sold or traded it, long ago.)
