The choice I have to make is among Glock 19, DW Vbob, Python 4" and HK P30.
My advice? Well, of the four, I have experience with three samples of the G19, and one Python. I have heard good things about DW and HK. None of them is likely to be a bad choice, but I am unsure how well Colt will support the older-production-era Pythons, if that is what you have. I believe that one should regularly train with one’s carry gun, or its twin. A G19 is largely user-repairable, and, the least-expensive to have two of them; one for carry, one for training, and, if practicable, one or more in reserve.
Even with a lock-box/safe inside your vehicle, a “car gun” is relatively more vulnerable. Sometimes, one’s entire vehicle disappears, or, is wrecked or flooded. This would make me hesitate to carry the Python, out and about, too much.
I am not anti-revolver, actually tending to carry similar-sized GP100 and Speed Sixes.
A carry gun is relatively more vulnerable to any number of hazards. I have no issue with the idea of toting a $2K+ 1911, for defensive purposes, but I can send my $2K+ pistols to the maker, for repair. In actuality, I presently tend to carry shorter-barreled weapons, than my 5” 1911 pistols, as my aging right shoulder is having range-of-motion issues.
So, of the four choices, in the original post, my answer is the G19. In real life, I am using GP100 and Speed Six revolvers, very similar to the Python, but easier to have repaired, or replace. (My Python did not thrill me, with its accuracy, and I preferred the GP100’s trigger stroke and grip ergonomics, so I sold or traded it, long ago.)
