I was listening to Hickok45 wax on about his beloved SAA Colts. He was comparing an Umberti to 2 other SAAs: one from Colt, the other from Standard Manufacturing. By far the most beautiful and with the most apparent fit-and-finish was the Standard Manufacturing SAA.

Checked on the cost of one of these puppies: $2,000 to $3,500.

What’s the word on Standard Manufacturing?
I’ve NEVER heard of Standard Manufacturing.

Tony Galazan started Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company. He makes very, very nice shotguns of several somewhat original designs and revivals of guns like the Winchester Model 21. The A-10 American is very nice indeed. Several years ago, he turned his hand to SAA revolvers and, more recently, 1911s. They look fantastic and there is no reason to believe that they would be any less well made than his highly regarded shotguns.

Made in the USA. No MiM. Nothing cast. If you want an SAA made the way Colts used to be made but with all the benefits of CAD and CNC machining: Standard Manufacturing. And you'll pay well for it.

Sign up for their weekly email if you want to drool over some very fine firearms. Some truly amazing pieces of art wander through their doors.

I hope Standard keeps making them and that they do well. USFA made some very well regarded Colt reproductions...until they switched to making a zip gun.

It's good to have choices at different price points.

For that kind of cash I believe I would get a Colt.

Provided you can find one, and I believe the Standard Mfg guns are superior in fit and finish to the 3rd generation Colt SAA. If they made one with a black powder frame I would own one.

I just checked with Standard this morning and, unfortunately, they no longer offer the black powder frame. They did for a short time about a year ago but no more. They do offer the SA in 44-40 which is not on their web site menu but it is available and I will be ordering one soon.

My brother has one as does my son. Me I am too cheap. That said the Standard Manf. would make you throw rocks at any generation of Colt SAA or USFA. I have owned many of the Colts and USFA guns over the years the the Standards are just a large cut above.

The earlier Uberti USFA's, I would agree. However, I don't see the Standards as equal to the later domestic USFA's, let alone a cut above. In fact, I really don't see how they could've been improved upon.

I owned a collection of 1st generation Colts (had to sell them to start a business). The domestic USFA Pre-War models are the equal of the finest 1st Gen Colt SAA. That's a 5-1/2" USFA in my avatar.

Buds has several Standard Manufacturing SAA's in a glass case when you walk in and I've looked them over pretty well. Very nice looking but definitely more than I want to spend on something like that.

I've got one sitting in my closet. I bought it for wife to give to me next Monday as a change-of-command gift. I have resisted opening the bag and looking at it. Ordered the 5.5" model with fancy, one piece walnut grip. Can't wait to open her up!
