THAT is some mighty fine checkering work - especially that hammer. That is probably the only part of a 1911 I never tried checkering on but it's definitely a very nice application. Got arthritis pain yet? I started checkering 30 years ago and my hands and wrists are in pretty bad pain now at age 70.

Thank you for the kind words.

It was already grooved at 20 LPI, but the grooves were square topped. A triangular file gave them pointed tops and the long lines were cut one at a time, with a single point triangular file.

I no longer checker, I stopped seven years ago when I retired. I am 71 now and it is my back, not my hands, that put an end to my gunsmithing.:(

Hey Tark,

That is one smokin' hot gun. Such work so early in your career is impressive. May I ask the approximate man hours for such a job?

Btw, you did the checkering on both of my LBs. Both guns are so nice that they are show stoppers on the line.

It was so many years ago I don't really remember, johnmcl. I do remember working a full 8 hour workday on that trigger guard alone. Let's just say it was well into double digits for the entire gun. And thanks for the kind words....
