no polictics that i know of and no religion. just guys and gals who want to learn about guns and how to make them shoot better. I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR THAT AND THAT IS A RELIEF TO SOME ONE WHO HAS BEEN ON OTHER SITES THAT IF YOUR NOT IN THEIR BOX YOU ARE NOTHING.thanks again to this site for just letting us teach and also learn for

I do appreciate the style of this forum, for sure.

however, I do sometimes wish there was an off topic section. Some of the personalities on here, you can just tell they’re itching to reference something, but it’s verboten.

And it’s these same guys I’d want to have those discussions with.

Get a Glock!!

That was a joke....:)

In the "early days" here at THR,back when it was first opened, we had some spirited discussions. Usually well mannered but "spirited"... o_O
There has always a Cadre of knowledgeable people that are willing to share information, expertise and, (when we can get away with it ;)), an opinion or two. Sadly, as the years have gone by, we have lost many of those people.:(
We'll be needing you younger shooters to fill in those ranks.

I think that we are fooling ourselves; the Russians, the North Koreans, the Cubans, etc. are all here - lurking, watching, waiting - “cordial” and “knowledgeable” are their tools to suck us in !!!!! Did I really say that? It is a great site to read and relax with a subject/ hobby I really enjoy.

It's possible to engage with people using the "Conversation" tool--which is what this specific forum software calls its Private Messaging system. That has less "public" engagement, but also does not violate forum rules, either.
Well yeah, but it’s not the same. And then, you need to know whom specifically you’d like to ask what. I prefer the dogpile arguments, when wisdom can fly from any direction

I think an entirely separate/offshoot message board was created just for this purpose. This was years ago. I visited a time or two; it used different kind of message board software. I don't remember the name of the board right off.

I am not sure if it still exists or not. Maybe somebody who knows/remembers more can chime in.

Back in the day, there was such a a sub-forum here ... immensely popular, never understood why it was abolished. IIRC, one had to have a certain number of posts to be eligible to peruse and post there. We also had the wild "Legal and Political" sub-forum, which, sadly went away when a handful of renegade members stopped playing nice.

I frequently post questions related to deciding which gun to buy or asking for the pros and cons of this or that model of .22 or 12 ga, rifle scope, ammo, reloading tips, etc. It helps me a lot and I try to respond in kind when I can help someone out. The site is very useful in that regard. The occasional holier-than-thou or know-it-all sort shows up, but that hasn't deterred me. Some other sites allow politics to enter discussions and that happens here too, but THR moderators shut it down quickly. Consequently, I remain active on this site and have faded away from others.
At times the dialogue drifts and the original post is lost. I would encourage readers to read the OP thoroughly before making a comment or offering advice and start a new stream of your own if the OP doesn't meet your interest. Trust me I've made that mistake myself. Mostly though, our fellow THR members are thoughtful and our administrators are to be commended for managing a site successfully for many years.

I really like THR. I only belong to one other forum for Cowboy Action. I have joined or gone into other gun forums only to find...well, I will be nice. Let’s just say I decided not to stick around.

I've only been a member for for four years but, prior to that, was a long time lurker. The members here are pretty knowledgeable in what they talk about. Have had some great suggestions on optics, grips and accessories. There are some members that have some of the most interesting interesting firearm collections. I thought I was the big rooster in the house with my pinned S&W revolver collection. I found out that I was only a flea on a roosters butt compared to the collections others have shown here.

-You can always join NoTechTyranny, which is sort of a branch of this site... .
NoTechTyranny is the off topic forum of THR - https://notechtyranny.com

All the things you were afraid to post on THR, you can post there. Yeah, really.

And the same personalities. :D

Have fun!

OK, back on topic.

Yes, I too came from other gun forums and I am amazed at things I have learned on THR ... There are some truly knowledgeable members with some amazing life experiences.

What I don't see here that I see on other gun forums is the "Good ol' Boy's Club" attitude. Where a small group of members tends to dominate the forum by collectively attacking anyone with an opinion different than theirs. Generally it comes down to everything is politics and religion. Don't own any Hi-Cap mags, you gotta be a Libby Dem-o-rat. Don't hate other races, ethic groups or folks with sexual preferences, gotta be a pervert atheist. Support single mom's working two jobs and receiving medical assistance and you gotta be a socialist. Half a dozen narrow minded angry old white guys that gossip and talk like third grade girls on the playgroup, driving every gun related conversation to their agenda.

While I haven't always agreed with every thing said on this forum, for the most part, I still respect the right of those folks to have that opinion. While I am tolerant of ethics that don't mirror mine, I have no time at all for any suggestion of something illegal, or dangerous. Same goes for folks that promote a negative image of responsible gun ownership. These are the areas that get me in trouble and will probably do so in the future. But those folks are far and few between here. We have a lot of folks with a huge amount of information and are not afraid to share it. We have a lot of folks with experience and skill with firearms that I could never hope to achieve. I do try to share my minuscule amount of knowledge with others here, because I myself have gleaned so much from here.

As the song says........"why do some people change and others stay the same? You've always been different, don't you, ever change!"
