Century Arms Canik TP9SF...

I have the aTp9SF. I like it a lot. It shoots to point of aim and is very accurate. I added a Freedomsmith pro trigger. This trigger gets rid of the take up in the trigger pull. Enjoy the new gun.

i have the TP 9 SF myself, got 2 mags coming via Federal Express tomorrow in fact, from Century. (this will give my 4 in total)

but i am still having problems with stove piping.

the Canik, WILL NOT shoot the Wolf 115 steel case ammo.

so today i took S&B 124 gr, and stove piping like no tomorrow, and this is WITH the new (from Century) less heavy RSA that came in about 2 weeks ago.

very disappointed in todays range time.

so on the way home, i stopped at my gun store, and got some Winchester 147 gr subsonic ammo, as they did not have NATO. the gun store salesman that i have been dealing with for the longest time now, said that this should be better than the NATO ammo.

so what the heck, i bought 250 rds.

i can't get back to the range until next week, to give this another try.

what i will do is, put in the replacement RSA (it is blue colored) and give at least 50 rds a try.

i may for schlitz and giggles also try the OEM RSA and run 50 rds with that one as well.

the ONLY thing i have ever done to this Canik, is to replace the slide lock release lever, with the extended one, again, from Century, so it is for all intense and purposes, an OEM part.

but if this new ammo (the Winchester 147 gr subsonic) does not improve this Canik, i may trade it in for yet another Glock, this time a 21.

getting kinda tiring on how my other guns can "eat" anything i feed them, and this Canik is like a finicky cat and will only eat certain things....

cheaper to be rid of it, than to keep it.

Buddyd157 your Canik should run better with the blue spring. Canik stock springs can be over sprung. I also have a TP9SFX that had problems unless the ammo was hot. Century set me the blue spring which is a lighter spring. It runs ok with it. I also use a gen 3 glock 15lb. recoil spring assembly with a gen 4 adapter. It runs good with that set up also.

i know it should..but it simply does not. i only shoot one cartridge at a time. sometimes i will rapid fire, but in all seriousness, the range prefers that we only shoot single shots with a pause in between, if any of this make sense as i explained it.

115gr Wolf, steel...no good for this gun

S&B brass 115 and 124 gr...was doing fine with the blue spring, but maybe after about 4 shots, a jam/stove pipe

Remington brass 115 gr....jams/stove pipes.

i am at a loss. no major modifications, other than the slide lock lever release (from Century) for the extended one. ( i have worked on my Glock 17, so although not an expert or armorer, i have some knowledge in doing simple things)

i am getting tired of ordering things for this gun, since the covid nonsense, and the extreme wait times.(but also for my glock, from the glock store, still waiting on steel roll pins)

like today, my 2 OEM 18 rd mags are supposed to be delivered. took long enough, thanks to covid and things shutting down.


so next week, the WInchester subsonic 147 grains, and the blue spring and the OEM spring

if a no-go..??

i'll clean it and trade it in or sell it.....then maybe get another Glock, maybe the 21....i'm done with it.

added, i just went to the glock store, for that gen 3 spring...over $100..???

I have 2 full size TP9sf models. Regular models, not the elite or sfx or anything...

I have hundreds of rounds through both with garbage ammo and never a problem.

Seems most of the issues with springs come from smaller or bigger models.

Shame, cuz the standard full size guns shoot better than any gun I own

The Canik TP9 pistols don't like limp wristing. My buddy has nerve damage in his hands and has problems with both our Canik pistols. I can take the pistol and run the mag with no problem.

They also need to be broken in. It's suggested that you run ~100 of NATO spec ammo through it.

My SFX will eat anything with either RSA. My SF ONE series is the same way. But my buddy has a problem with them.

Make sure you've got a good tight grip on the pistol. See if another shooter has the same problem.

Buddyd, do try the heavier projectiles. I had a TP9SF and have a TP9SFX, and neither liked light projectiles. But they ran fine with 135 grain and heavier bullets. I load them with 135 or 147 grain Xtreme heavy plates and a near-top-end load of either AA #5 or Power Pistol, and the failures to cycle are non-existent. Both loads are very accurate also. NATO spec ammo is pretty hot, so no surprise that it is recommended for break-in, although I had not heard that recommendation.

Buddy here's the glock spring set up for a glock 17. You can use it two different ways. You can order it with a 13lb. spring and use it like that. Or grind the ridge off of the adapter and use a 15lb. spring. With the adapter ground down the recoil rod fits in the spring tunnel, not ground down it's on the outside. Both ways work. The spring set up is $28. Also why not see if Century will fix it and pay for shipping? my Glock 17 RSA looks nothing like this one. what gen is that for?

I bought a TP9SF at least 4 years ago when they were constantly sold out. Not sure if anything has changed since then. I was impressed and very happy that it will eat anything. Steel, brass, or bullet weight, standard load or +P are no matter.

I have heard of the "soft" spring but never needed it myself. I've also heard they like hot ammo, but like I said...

9MM NATO is listed in the Army ammunition data book as 112gr / 1263fps. That puts it well into the +P range. I'm willing to bet all the 7 or 8 bucks in my wallet subsonic won't even cycle.

i had started to respond to someone's posting about the weights of both the glock and canik. as i had mentioned i can handle the glock, and it weighs in at 2 lbs with 17 hollow points.


the canik weighs in at 2.25 lbs with same ammo.

i saved the draft of this response with out the weights until i could weigh up the guns, but i cannot find where that draft is hidden....

Buddy that is a gen 3 guide rod with a gen 4 adapter. You actually can take apart the factory guide rod apart too. I did that and cut off some of the spring on my really heavy black version. They are loctited so you need to heat up the end with the threads and use a 7mm and 1/4" wrench to get it apart.

You could still be limp wristing the Canik. My buddy has no problem with Glocks either. But the Canik hates him.

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction. I have had 3 Caniks: a Tp9sf (had a decocker), a Tp9sf Elite and a Tp9SFX. I still have the SFX. I load my own 9mm somewhat hotter than the 115 gr stuff. I don't remember a round that didn't fire correctly. I load 124 gr plated bullets.

I just added a freedomsmith trigger to my SFX. No more take up. Looking forward to a range session.
