Picked up two Carcano’s on Thursday that I traded an Enfield No 1 with someone on this site. They are not in bad shape. I now have two more rifles towards my collection of milserp rifles. One is 6.5 and the other is 7.35. I haven’t figured out the SD mark on the bolt. I do know the SA that’s on the receiver and the history of the 7.35. Any Carcano’s out there? I do need a rear band for the one.

I have always heard that the SD on the bolt was an inspectors stamp.. Those look like nice rifles...

A few more photos would be nice :)

I will post a few more shortly. I have both fully apart for a nice cleaning and inspection. There were a few rusty parts here and there, nothing that won't clean up nicely. Just surface stuff.

I ordered some clips. Now to find ammo. Shouldn’t be too hard. I can also load myself as I acquire the components. Don’t plan on shooting them too much.

My only Carcano is also a 7.35 with the SA mark, VG condition, no bayonet. Bought it cheap with a varnished stock about 20 years ago. I've only been to the range once with it -- someday I need to tweak the repro clips I have to function smoothly.

My wife's 3rd gen Japanese-American -- just had our 38th anniversary Friday. Funny, I've yet to own a single Japanese-made firearm.

yeah, forcing the extractor to ride over the rim MIGHT cause it to break. same as the M1895 Steyr rifles :what:

Many of the 7.35's were sent to Finland in 1943-44.They were stamped SA on bolt or barrel depending on the inspector.

There is also a lot of carcano talk on the WWII bolt thread that is going right now....check out the last couple pages for carcano stuffs.

IMHO the Partizan ammo shoots pretty poor out of them, carcano never got a "pointy" boolit, if you reload get the hornady bottle nosed bullet, it is of the proper profile for carcano and really wakes up the rifle, don't discount it till you give it a try. Oh this is for your 6.5 version....the other is going to be hard, I don't know anyone that is factory loading for that old gal. And remember fixed sight, if working at 100 you need to hold pretty low.

Pretty pricey (and pointy), but available:

FWIW, Grafs has loaded ammo, brass, bullets and Hornady dies (Lee's too when in stock).

According to Ian at Forgotten Weapons, many SA marked Terni's were fitted with a taller front sight by Finnish armorers to shoot closer to POA at 150.

I ordered dies for both calibers today. I don't see myself shooting them a lot, but its nice to have ammo for every firearm I own. Thanks Dave for the links. I followed each and everyone of them.
