How obsessed with firearms and everything that goes with it are you?

for me its always watching a movie with shooting in it, or reading a book/magazine every day. a day doesn't go by where i don't think about firearms.

trying to collect what i can!

what about you?

Ahhh not so much anymore. I like shooting, reloading, casting ect. but in the last 5 years or so I see other important things in life. I'll be 60 in December. While I,m furloughed, (I,ve never been unemployed or on unemployment, first time) my job should be back in the 4th period in NY state.( DO NOT tell me to move.) I probably have 30-40K in fire arms with the current values. I,ve worked from home since 1995 and my time is my own if don,t have any calls up. I can just do what I want and get paid. I used to hit the rang 3+ times a week. But not so much anymore. I am glad I have firearms with the latest riots. We had a big one Saturday night but the shut it down. 2020 wil be a year we remember, Stay safe. Sorry for the ramble.

I don't know. I've never really thought about guns/shooting as being an "obsession." Guns and shooting have always just been part of my life. I grew up around them, can't remember when they weren't around, and I'm 72 years old. For the most part, guns are just tools to me. Special tools to be sure, and some have a great deal of sentimental value to me, but in the end, they're just tools that I have and use (or might use) for specific purposes.
I have to admit though - one time I became "obsessed" with a firearm because I seen it in a movie - a Shiloh-Sharps 45-110. I probably wouldn't have ever gotten that rifle if I hadn't seen it in "Quigley." And I've told the story many times about how I became obsessed with a custom 308 Norma Magnum - when I was 16, my then girlfriend's dad had one. So I finally got one of my own when I retired. But other than those two instances, I can't think of any guns with which I've had what could be called an "obsession."

If the weather sucks, I'd prefer to watch a good English Premier soccer game than reload........but otherwise, if I can make it outside, I am shooting handguns and shotguns

I like guns, but I wouldn't say I'm nuts about them. I am nuts about shooting. I have 4 .22s, a carry gun (Glock 48), a 1911 .45 (because everyone should), an AR-15 (sometimes 2) and a couple of other odd guns that I keep for sentimental or other reasons. I have what I need and don't feel an urge to accumulate as many as I can. I'd rather spend the money on ammo so that I can shoot more.

I shoot as often as I can. Sometimes that's 5 or 6 times in a week, but never less than twice. I also take owning firearms very seriously and I practice to be proficient in all aspects. Not just punching holes in paper. It boggles my mind that when most decide they want to get a firearm, when they've never had one and taking a firearm safety course is the farthest thing from their minds.

I enjoy guns... shooting them, handling them, hunting with them and talking about them. If that's obsessed then I guess I am.

Never was interested as a young adult, guns were simply foreign objects that no one I knew had any, only cops and bad guys and those evil hunters (except my mother's uncle who did own a hunting rifle in Brooklyn of all, places,1960's). Over time I did develop an interest probably sparked by a broken promise for a BB gun.

Eventually through a combination of buying a house in Florida and taking a good look at the laws in NJ I saw it really was possible to buy a gun. An LCP of all things was my first. And then I had to have a 1911, and you can't just have pistols, so I bought a 686.... and it's been going on ever since. When NJ instituted one gun a month I thought thank goodness, my bank account can't take more than one gun a month anymore ;

Obsessed? No, but I love to own, shoot, clean, and accessorize tastefully. And reloading... because why not make your own ammo.

Ditto. Growing up in the outdoors, firearms were a tool and shooting was an occasional pastime when camping. We rarely went into the woods specifically to shoot, other than to sight in a hunting rifle. Now I have a few that are more than tools and nearly works of art, but I don't enjoy them as much as I enjoy my working guns.

Gun interest only began in 2007, then age 52.

Trying to catch up with the knowledgeable 25 year-olds is rather challenging. When interests in gun categories or general types changed every two years or so, it required much more reading each time.
Handgun interest did not begin to slowly blossom until age 59 or so. The spark was my first handgun, the WW2 Sauer 38H.

Firearms are just a hobby for me. So are American Muscle cars. I usually buy one or two firearms a year and buy or trade for a new (to me) Corvette, Mustang or Camaro every three or four years. The 'rona has put a crimp in my style though. Being 68 with underlying health conditions means no trigger time in three months and car shopping is on the back burner.
I do obsess over finding and trying good Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, matching it with a good cigar and playing 42 (dominoes) on my back deck with a family member or friend.

It comes and goes, I guess. I'm not really a "collector", in that I don't think rarity is a good measure of value. For the most part I have or have had all of the guns that are interesting to me, and I suppose I was a little dissapointed to learn that they all do about the same thing.

I thought about that lesson for a decade or so and then began paring down my collection. That has paused during this Covid nonsense, but I still am fairly close to the goal of having only guns that do what I want without directly duplicating any of my other guns.

There still are guns out there that I would buy - assuming I ever have money again - but there no longer is anything that "I can't live without".

I absolutely understand that. Of the two guns (my Shiloh Sharps and my custom 308 Norma Magnum) I own that I admitted to having "obsessions" with, I think the Sharps is beautiful. But it's more of a novelty that I like to show off and let friends and grandkids shoot once in a while. On the other hand, my custom Montana Rifle Company 308 Norma Magnum is a "working gun" - it's bead blasted stainless with a synthetic stock because I ordered it that way. And I love shooting it. With its regular Weaver 3X9 scope and my handloads, it's deadly accurate. It has already accounted for several mule deer.

It comes and goes, I guess.

Same for me.
At times guns are all I think about. However, I'm more obsessed with deer hunting than just guns. Don't get me wrong, I like guns............a lot. Every time I buy a new one, I'm thinking about the next one before I get back home with it.

But it goes in spurts. Generally, I'm all guns and hunting during the cold months, and ready to hit the golf course in the warmer months.

This year is a little different though. I killed a big buck for the first time last year, and it has renewed a fire for deer hunting. Usually this time of year, I'm not preparing yet. But this year I'm buying salt blocks and making mineral sites for deer even now.

Obsessed? Nah. Just REALLY into it.
