Just getting old

1 MI and 4 stents here. The Savage is a great idea.
My neice hunts squirrel with a Model 24 22/410. She loves it.
I have a M24V in 357mag/20ga. Great walking around gun.
Savage M24's were made in a bunch of different combinations. Watch the used market for one that fits your needs.

I have CZ in 17 Hornet - NO RECOIL super accurate- hits much harder than a 22 mag.

I am 74 this year. Heart attack and stint 2 weeks ago, pacemaker yesterday. Wrist problems have made me give away everything over 22mag. 20 gauge is just a little more than I can tote or shoot with comfort. I still like to go walking in high desert plateau, 5000'. Being realistic I would like to have a bit more than a 22mag. I think I have it narrowed down to a savage model 42 410/22 mag. As this will be a walking firearm, and probably the last one I buy, I was wondering if any one on the forum owned one and could give me a heads upon reliability, accuracy and useful range. I no longer hunt, I just want a dependable backup.

Any advice appreciated, Thank you in advance,

blindhari

Have you given the Mossberg Model# 50700 a look see? It's a 590 in .410 .....https://www.mossberg.com/product/590-7-shot-50700/ shouldn't be too much heavier that the Savage model 42 and you would have more shots on hand if needed.

If you shop around you might find a Garcia Bronco Single Shot 22 lr over .410
It might not pack the .22 magnum punch, but its as light a combo firearm as one can pack.

That thing is so ugly it's almost attractive. Reminds me of the first Daisy BB guns.
