Had a machete since the 80’s that had a broken handle. Fixed that last night. Am I a knife maker, heck no. Just an average joe. Used a block of firewood to cut into the handle. Looks to me like soft wood of some sort. Anyhow it’s a Sheffield England Made blade. Old and well worked. Yes I used screws, cut off the ends and ground them down. Just to show even an amateur can get good results on a work blade.

One day I will figure this stuff out. We have many craftsman on here. If you want a high end network with advanced next gen firewalls built. I am your man. If you want a custom blade, go elsewhere. :)

The wood used was in the picture. Exact piece of wood. I am not very sure what kind it is, it is from some junk trees I cut down this spring around the yard. It isn't a hard wood. Cut it longer than needed, then used a table saw to square it up. Then cut two pieces for the handles also on the table saw. Only other tool used was a bench grinder for the screws and a belt sander.

What size corby fastener would one use?

Wood looks like pin cherry

The bark doesn't though.

Looks like Elm. "sturdy" work on the scales.
