I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I ran to academy to see what sort of ammunition they had and my store had Frontier .223 55gr HPs for $149 for 420 rounds in a little container. When I got to the register, I was asked if I wanted to open an account for 15% off of my purchase. I got 2100 rounds for under $740. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

They also had Aguila .22 38gr HPs in 500 round boxes for $22 a box.

Academy in central Texas was absolutely wiped out Monday. Zero 223, 9mm, 40, 45. Reloading supplies were also mostly gone.

I was in my Academy here in North Alabama Saturday and its ammo isle was wiped out too. The only 9mm, 40S&W, or 45 ACP they had was shot-shells. The ammo section probably had 15% of the normal amount of inventory.

I did buy the last pound of H110 they had. Time for some 450 Bushmaster blasting ammo.

15% discount is not nearly enough to sign up for a credit card for me.

Same to worse here in Texas they did say come in when they open on truck day and they will have some, my non reloader friend did and got 5 boxes a box is any size box, limits of 5. Our new Scheels has all you want 9 for $8.99 no limits all the components you want also. They have pallets of ammo there. All we got was components primers and powder.

Our Academy was low for a while but seems to be coming back.
I'm a little lower than I like to be on .22 lr. I need to go see if mine has that price on Aguila 500 packs.

You might want to call them. The 500 rounds of Aguila wasn’t on the website. I was surprised when I found them.

I’m not big on credit cards either, but I shop at academy a lot. You also get 5% off of every purchase.

The academy closest to me has been bare except for .380 auto, and only a few boxes of that.

i can still find .25 auto and .32 auto there, and some of the less popular rifle calibers. OH! And handgun shotshells. Lots of those. Thinking about those because of a trip to west texas soon

Wish someone in Academy HQ would look at a map and realize there's a whole other part of the country. Unless they feel they can't compete "up north"...Someone mentioned the other day that .40 was getting scarce. Rural King in Hillsboro Ohio had quite a bit as of Sunday evening.

I bought 100 rds of 9mm ($21.99 without tax) and 400 rds of .223 Rem ($164.99 without tax) in the Mesquite Texas Academy on May 15th. They still had some ammo. That was the only bulk can they had, but there were other boxes of .223 and 9mm.

Got there right as the store opened on my way home from work in the morning. So they are getting restocked.

Not a great price, but I was going shooting with a bunch of co-workers and I didn’t want to put a hole in my lil mini-stockpile. Probably better off hitting gunbot, wikiarms or ammoseek and finding a better price if you’ve got the time and are willing to wait a bit. I wasn’t though.

I would love for Academy to migrate north and run Dick’s Sporting Goods out of business.

Pensacola academy had almost no handgun ammunition except things like 44 mag and 357 sig, no buckshot, and no MSR ammo. Fully stocked on traditional hunting ammo and shotgun rounds for anything with feathers.

Sheel's in the Dallas area was loaded with ammo a couple of weeks ago. As of Tuesday almost all the 9mm is gone.

Still lots of other stuff though.

I guess this is a hit or miss deal at academy. Yesterday i found some WWB .45ACP, some federal .38spl (lead round nose), and some 5.56. Some say you gotta be there for truck unloading. I got too much to do to rearrange my schedule for that.

Wait for an hour just to walk in the door, and hope to find something?

And this is better than online ordering at JGsales (?), although shipping plus retail tax must be paid.

*This is why we stored ammo for years (partly for retirement)--to avoid all of this.

Academy's very flat prices --compared to places such as JGsales-- means that little .22LR, very little 9mm and no 7.62x39 is avail. for shipping.

Lol there was no waiting for me. Walk right in, find what i found, walk right out.

Honestly, i went in for something else and went to the ammunition area just to see how bare the shelves were. So i bought what i bought. they do have a 5-unit limit tho.

I stopped by there Tuesday morning and it was slim pickens and the shelves almost bare. They had one section with WWB 200 rd packs 9mm for 39.99 that they must have just put out. Not a bad price considering. I grabbed the 5 limit just to add to my stash. It was going fast. JGs prices on cases I use to buy has gone up by 100 bucks or more. I use to buy a lot from them but they started charging tax as well as the shipping. Got some from target sports before this mess started and they were still not charging me tax...

That's what I'm seeing at Cabela's/Bass Pro, and Sportsman's. Being a reloader doesn't help either, unless you have lots and lots of components already on hand, because there is no powder or primers. (Plenty of projectiles though.)

What the virus started, the riots finished. I think this is how it will be for a very long time now, at least through November, and for a long time beyond depending on the outcome.

I have ammo, but not enough for sustained, high-volume (USPSA) competition or formal training on a regular schedule. I can go to the range twice a month for a quite a while, but I will have to be very conservative just in case this become quite protracted again. I doubt that I have an eight-year supply.

There is quite a bit of talk about defunding the police and in some neighborhoods, forming militias to replace the police and protect their own communities. :what: I’m sure that will all work out fine!:uhoh:

At any rate, we are getting every walk of life deciding they need a gun and lots of ammo. So I agree that this shortage/panic could last a long time.

I don't put too much stock in that kind of talk. The government will not easily let go of its monopoly on violence. There will always be police. It may look different in a year, but it will be there. Militias will always be considered "extremist."

I just ordered some Winchester 5.56 for .34 a round from Natchez Shooter's Supply with a limit of four boxes of 150 rounds each.

I also ordered some Frontier M193 for .38 a round from South Georgia Outdoors.
