Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

I’m off work again today so I’m out in the woods again.

Weather is gorgeous, like scattered clouds, a 5 mph breeze, low humidity, and 70 degrees.

I have cell signal so I’m actually posting this from my lunch spot on the small summit I chose to hike. Today I’m actually on a developed recreation trail so I chose to carry concealed. I have seen a few folks out here too so I’m glad I did. I’m carrying a SA XDs-45. It’s the smallest polymer gun I have and it’s one I don’t really care if I get sweaty or ding up.

I’ve thought several times about selling this gun, but it’s good to have a beater, and it does shoot straight. Carry ammo is 230 gr HSTs +p. Good medicine for a lion, or a meth head.

I’m also carrying a Zero Tolerance 0462 with a 4” CPM 20CV blade. Great knife. It’s very light considering it’s size. I have XL hands for reference. Same Roman Tree walking stick as last time.

Couldn’t ask for a better day on the trail. I hear recreational shooters in the distance. Yaaaaayyyyy! And now I just heard thunder. Time to get the hell out of here.

Well I was out again today but had to make it fast. Same 10mm as before, same location.

Then the thunder started, and I had to speed walk three miles back to my truck.

If anyone is wondering, no I didn’t make it back in time. Got rained on. Bit of lightning too. Had to wipe my gun down with oil.

This guy posed nicely after the rain passed.

There’s some nasty weather headed my way so rather than head to the woods, I headed to the cemetery, which is a very peaceful place to walk and I can stay close to my vehicle. You really don’t want to be walking ridge tops when there’s lightning coming. I’ve had way too many close calls at work.

I just hit the half way point and it’s blissfully quiet out here and people free. Today is again my P938 Legion and my Chimera.

It’s not what I typically call the great outdoors, but there’s sunshine, birds, and no snow, so it counts.

I’m carrying one of my shillelaghs today. This one is made of blackthorn and came from Ireland. It’s a nice walking fiddle stick.

Stuck under a spruce tree on the other side of the cemetery. Thunder is rolling. Guns getting wet. Going to have to break out the oil.
This poor little one is looking for shelter from the thunder.

Is there a better oil to use to repel water than Hoppe’s #9?

Just got a new fat tire folding ebike with peddle assist and rode a 26 mile round trip on the rails to trails greenway from Shelby farms to Overton Park. It was great allowing me too get back out with no knee or ankle pain. Mostly like riding thru a tree covered tunnel passing along the Wolf river bottoms to Overton park with the last old growth forest in the area. But the last mile to the park is a very bad part of town on a bike lane on the road. With the protest going on in areas around I decided on firepower over stopping power. So PMR 30 and 3 magazines and pepper spray in bike bag and NA mini 22 mag in watch pocket and a karambit on belt. IMG_2036.JPG IMG_2035.JPG

I use wax on all non moving parts. Bolts get a light coat of atf.
Since I made this change, I don't fight rust as often.
I does make for a smoke show in my AR the first couple rounds.

That PMR 30 looks sweet.

Yesterday we went for a hike up Frog Ridge.
A huge elevation of approximately 46’.
We walked a few miles(few hundred yards) in from the HayMarsh road.
We found our way by the sun(for thirty minutes).
We came across a flock of blood thirsty Mosquitoes(Michigan state bird).
We found Bear poop(yup).
We talked about how water goes up trees(after the fun of getting peed on by a tree frog. I love that joke. Mini Amazon less so...:D)
We marveled at a moss “forest” in a swamp, in a woods, in a HayMarsh, in a forest.(That is technically surrounded by the worlds largest lakes. “Whoa.” Says Little Bear, his eight year old mind blown...)

Since it was a Play-Day, I took these out with us.

I love me some 1911. This one is for carrying. In the woods, in the yard, in the jungle.
We have seen bears all spring and lost some really beautiful bird feeders. I am still adequately armed with this 45Auto. I never see one in the woods, I am too loud. With kids, we may as well be a moving rock concert!

We didn’t find any targets of opportunity, as we were too enthralled with the world at large.

But later on, we found a whole lot of steel at the cabin...

Sniper team Alpha.:)

I didn’t carry the Buckmark. No holster.

I finally got to get out on my bike today after a week and a half of having to take it easy. I’d been looking forward the entire day at work.

Beautiful day again, but I ended up racing the rain home. But after a brief sprinkle it stopped. Was a fun race though!

Today felt like a revolver day, so I grabbed my modern day velodog and headed out.

I’m sure everyone can guess the ammo make. 158 gr.

Had to dodge a few folks and a few fools stopped for a rest, but left their bikes literally parked in the middle of the trail. Really?

Still a good time though.
