The top left is a 64 East German that had a good bit of wear that was refinished by Mac’s Shooting Irons just before he closed shop.

The bottom left is one of my favorite Makarovs for looks and shooting. It is a modified Bulgarian that I bought locally and added the Russian made Dozer grip.

The two on the right have Russian commercial frames and the slides were bought as they are. Top right has a Bulgarian slide with Novak sights. The bottom right has a chrome plated East German slide that I bought on Ebay.

Other than grips on one or two, all of my other Makarovs are original.

My brother has an East German Mak. Double action trigger heavy but serviceable; single action is fairly decent. Overall fit and finish comparable to a number of first line quality European and U.S. manufacturers.

I've had a Bulgarian, Russian, and E. German Makarov way back..... when ammo was very cheap and plentiful.... all of my guns were about the same to each other but the E. German had a superior finish to it. serviceable guns but I got into the practicality of things and let them go one at a time.....

Pelo801:
I've owned five Makarovs -all single stack- and two Polish P83s (9x18 for the unfamiliar viewers).

Despite the decent ergos of the Makarovs, I found the Polish P-83 just a tad More enjoyable to shoot, and just as rugged. Actually prefer the DA pull on these Polish guns.

*But the Mak and 83 magazines are Not At All interchangeable.

I agree. I've found the P83's to have a slightly better DA trigger than the other Maks. And the mag release is easier as well. The only other Mak chambered gun with a better DA trigger, I'd have to go with the CZ82

Well I waited to give the proper Makarov owners first dibs:

Here’s my bog standard CZ82

After not owning a CZ82 for 7 years, I cant believe I waited so long to get another one. It’s one of the most ergonomically perfect pistols I’ve ever held, it’s got equal accuracy to any modern service handgun around, and it just plain works. It’s my favorite semi auto for carry these days.

And I just love those weirdly fat hemispherical round nose FMJ.

Pelo801/Revolving Garbage: Those CZ-82s have some of the best DA triggers and ergos, if the original grips are attached.

Thinner grips might still be avail. for better concealed carry.

Owning the CZ-82 demonstrated the very high quality of other guns such as the CZ PCR I own (and 'true' Czech VZ-58 rifle).

Yep the CZ82 is hard to beat. It's c&r but a modern pistol. It's very comfortable in hand, accurate, and durable. The prices have trended up a bit but it's still an affordable option.

I think the cz82 is still relevant today in the world of SD/CCW guns. 13 rds, great DA trigger, good cartridge. Maybe a little heavy but in the $300ish range. It's still something to consider

I concur. So much so, in fact, I just got shipping confirmation from J&G on one arriving Monday! Aimsurplus was about 80 bux more, but the finish is vg.

Pelo801: Exactly.
As for similar guns...chambered...in 9x18, the CZ-82 (with original grips) seems preferable.
Comparing both the ergos and DA pulls, the Polish P-83 seems a bit better than an actual Makarov.

But with over 1,000 rds. in my commercial .380 Russian Mak, a perfect function and no complaints.

Ladies & gentlemen: note that a magazine from a .380 Makarov works >>perfectly<< in a single-stack 9x18 Mak, and Vice Versa. It makes no difference at all.
Go to the "Makarov Forum" at "Gunboards" if you want to verify this.

This is a classic arms cz82. Looks like a police trade in to me. Even came with a lanyard

These first three are not Makarovs but are FEGs that shoot the 9x18 round. Top one is the PA-63, left side is an FEG model R61, and bottom right is an FEG SMC-918. All three have Marschal grips from Hungary. FA1664EE-0711-49E9-8875-5C32B4C95241.jpeg

The top one of these three is the Polish made P64 with a Polish Iron grip which helps a lot with the fierce recoil. The two lower pistols are both Bulgarian made commercial models of the Makarov that are called Miltex. Not sure how many were made, but they were imported around 1998-1999.

A closer view of the chrome model ! The redesigned trigger guard, grip, and magazine extension tends to make these a little more modern looking. I still prefer the original lines of the older models.
