You have exquisite taste in firearms, Sir ! Is that grip safety off of an A1 ? WHO CARES!!!

Gunny, if you ever get up my way, now that you are retired, a trip to the Rock Island Arsenal Museum might be well worth the time and effort. There is no admission and we have 1225 guns on display, many of which I have posted. The museum is closed at this time but it won't stay that way forever.
Yes, it does have an A1 grip safety. May have been one of the 1911 that was kept in service state side after 1942. I have a 1911 grip safety in my extra parts. I might put it on the gun.
If I make it up your way, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Dang, Gunny, we can tell you're not married. I got yelled at for buying myself a sweatshirt for a Father's Day present to myself. And here you go with an absolute classic.

Save up, I'm retiring in 1 year, 11 months and twelve days ... (and yeah, I like 1911s).

Yep! Not being married has it’s advantages. But the kids and grandkids still get me all the time.
If I got yelled at every time I bought a gun or something gun related, I would never get any peace.
I’ve had a bunch on forum member accuse me of being a Glock Fanboy because, I like Glocks. Little do some know that I have and shoot many different guns. Some of them will be surprised at what I’ve ordered myself for Father’s Day. Lipsey’s just got in a shipment of Sig M18 pistols. I have one coming. If it doesn’t arrive today, it will be in Monday.

I bought myself a Springfield Loaded Target 1911 for my retirement gift. Wanted one ever sense shooting on a Army pistol team in Ft Hood. Runs like a champ and only issue was the Trigger pull was out of spec, Springfield fixed that for me in a couple weeks. hdbiker

The 1911 had a longer grip safety then the 1911A1. The 1911 I bought a few years ago has a 1911A1 grip safety.
The 1911 was used up to 1942. They were being replaced with the 1911A1. It still took a few years to swap them all out and many 1911s were issued the state side troops throughout WWII.

I had one in my Arms Room when I took over as Armorer for my unit in 1986, and it was there until they made me send it to Anniston in exchange for an M9. :( It was our XO's issue pistol, and he took loving care of it, and shot it in the Ft. Ord post matches.

Nice pair of 1911's, Gunny!

Very nice acquisition! Happy retirement. The first thing I tell my friends when they are contemplating retirement is that they need to find a hobby! I see you already have one. Good Luck on retirement.

Somehow I don't see Gunny as the type to just sit and twiddle his thumbs......

Enjoy your retirement, you've earned it several times over.

Congrats again for you retirement and now for your gift.
Btw, it is a superb pistol clean, lube, shot and love it more. You have plenty in your herd but this one is unique.
Caress it and lube it, show us few paper holes with pride.
Thank you Gunny I'm sure it is great corollary in your life events.

Knives! Yuck! Gunny, don't you know knives are dangerous! :)
Nice revolvers tho and as always excellent photos!

That’s such a nice pistol. I like a pistol with bumps and bruises;
I like ones that have been well cared for, for more than a century even better!
