I've driving my son from NorCal to Ft. Worth in August and I'm looking for a holster that's easy to wear and access while seated. Likely a G26 or a K6s. Any tips, good or bad?

I Barry my EDC on my belt either IWB or OWB. When I enter my car I unholster it and place the pistol in a pocket which is secured between the driver seat and the console. As I leave the car I holster the gun on my person. A sticky pocket holster stays in place and offers easy access and no seatbelt obstacle.

Crossdraw works quite well in a vehicle.

I use the same idea I use an OWB left handed holster and can draw easily with my left hand. Just a simple flap holster, nothing special. The seat belt gets in the way on the right side, and when I wear on the right side it gets caught on things getting in and out.

I have a High Noon belt holster... it positions the pistol quite high on my belt so it doesn't quite get buried behind me, or in the seatbelt. Further, when I strap it, I loop the rear holster loop, then my 3 O'clock belt loop, then the front holster loop... this allows me to slide the holster forward a bit when I sit to drive, and then back some when I'm out of the vehicle, while still keeping the holster snug enough to draw, or have it flop around when I'm walking.

I make that same basic trip (in reverse... TX to southern NV, and back...) about 4 times a year by truck. I do use my shoulder holster in the winter months, but that isn't really practical in the heat of the summer.

Here is my Kahr CW9 in the High Noon... you can see how high it would ride on a belt.

Here's my .45 in a High Noon (R)... and you can see, with the bigger pistol they elected to lower the position... understandably.

Should someone pop into your car uninvited while you are letting someone out, you will prefer to be able to access a handgun from the left side with the left arm

There are some dedicated car holsters

Mitch Rosen Counter Carjacking Rig (CCR) https://mitchrosen.com/products/holsters/belt-holsters/

Andrews Leather Carjacker Crossdraw http://www.andrewsleather.com/traditional.htm

I've got a couple of Rosens, I saw the Cross and CCR. The Andrews looks nice, too.

Jeffrey Custom idea looks good. http://jeffreycustomleather.com/CrossdrawConcealmentHolsters.html

El Paso, Kirkpatrick Texas, Tucker, too.

Thanks guys!

I have had one experience with need to pull a gun in over40 years it happened in 1991 in Tucson. I was carrying cross draw and stopped at a light on Ajo Way when a person opened my truck door and said get the F out. When he saw my hand on the revolver he ran lucky for me .My hammer on my Blackhawk was caught in the seatbelt.I have played with many ways since to never have that happen again and I still often carry cross draw, but know I keep a Rossi ranch hand in 45 loaded it’s legal because it’s a handgun.there are many options today in a Ar type pistol .a hand gun can be carried loaded When a rifle can’t.I have also recently added a Bond Arms Texan to a cubby on my dashboard. Not on your person works best in a vehicle so why use something bigger than your Ed.
My next build is going to be a Ar pistol in 350 legend .good excuse for another gun right?

I'm getting ready to go on a multistate drive. All states I'm passing through honor my Indiana carry permit, so I will be able to keep my gun on my person at all times. For day to day carry, I much prefer an IWB holster, but I hate how it rides on my belt when I sit and makes the gun nearly impossible to access in a pinch. For situations like this, a simple shoulder holster works fine. I will be wearing vacation attire (tropical over shirt, shorts, etc), so the holster rides easily under my arm and out of the way of my seatbelt. For this trip I have decided to stick with my 686+ snub nose. The shoulder holster I have for my semi autos snags a bit and sometimes requires less than ideal/safe handling to yank out. The holser I am wearing is specificially made for L Frame revolvers and I figure 7 rounds of .357 will be effective (if deafening) at close range.

I will say the worst thing about a shoulder rig for me is the weight. They always sit a little weird. Luckily, when I am driving, the bottom of my hoster sort of rests on the door arm rest and takes some of the weight off. The 686+ is a fine fighting revolver, but she's a hefty gal to cart around:D When we get where we're going, the custom IWB holster comes out and the shoulder rig stays packed until the return trip.

I usually carry a G19 in a right-side cargo pocket (commonly in a Remora or Sticky Holster) and it works for most all standing and sitting needs, much like a drop-leg holster. The only drawback is that cargo pocket carry will thump the pants leg around when ya run.

The number of times I've mention the Wilderness Safepacker on THR makes me feel like a sales rep. :D

On long drives I carry with one for the comfort. It can be put on your pants belt (not super comfortable but okay); on the seat belt (might be a problem if you have to exit quickly); or carried with the shoulder strap, adjusted so it just sits in your lap (my preference). I don't even have the buckle clipped, and just let the flap hang down as it does. I often still wear an OWB concealment holster, and just transfer the gun before exiting the vehicle.

When I drove limousines in a large city I used a cross draw. But you'll need a jacket to cover it and get to the gun quickly. You can sit in the car and still easily draw your gun if someone approaches your window - and they'll never see it coming. It also won't hang up on a seatbelt.

I found the Alien Gear holsters too bulky for carry... but they do make a great holster that attaches with Velcro. Like others my carry gun is in a vehicle mounted holster while driving. It is much quicker and much more comfortable.
