Looking at gallery of Guns and other Distributors where are all the guns? S&W Glock Sig all out of stock. Guess the Covid and BLM riots spured everyone to buy them, but looking at ammo and reloading supplies all out of stock too. I will have to wait for a S&W 629pc to be in stock to get my new toy.

I sent a revolver into S&W for repair. Usually within a week after receiving a gun I get a call or email that they are working on it. I haven’t received any word on my gun. It’s been there 4 or 5 weeks now. I did speak with a lady in Customer Service and she said they were short staffed. According to an article I read S&W was up and operating but it doesn’t appear that way.

I have been wanting to buy an S&W 327 TRR8 but there are none to be found. There are none at distributors, online sales or local gun stores. I guess I will just have to wait.

I’m local to the Brownells store, I went there last Saturday to get some powder. There was a two hour waiting list to get in. Luckily I just ordered what I needed and they let me go in and pick it up and pay. Lots of people still looking to buy a firearm with everything that’s going on, and a lot of them are first time buyers.

Local pawn shop/dealer has nothing but hunting shotguns, a couple of mil-surp rifles from Russia, and 3 different brand .380s for CC. Compound bows are on display where the once plentiful handguns were.

Times have changed. Before all of this started, I was able to score a dirt cheap Mini 30, a S&W 1006, and a 7-shot 686-4 for a song...all from the same shop.

I went by a LGS that normally carries a large variety of firearms.. I stopped to check on a Charter revolver or two ...... he had zip .. said he can’t hardly get any revolvers...

It seems supply/manufacture problems, high demand caused first by Covid, civil unrest and an election year, prices are high and supply is low for guns and ammo most places. I'm happy I hoarded the Walmart ammo very cheaply before they stopped selling it and bought several revolvers during that time. It was a combination of good timing and dumb luck.

We're smashed in between an actual shortage and a self-manufactured shortage. Like others have said, the COVID-19 issue has required manufacturers to figure out ways to keep their workers safe. This has meant that production floors had to be shuttered in order to fabricate safety measures like installing plexiglass barriers. It also further slows production as a plant that is designed to have 60 people working shoulder to shoulder in order to produce must now do it with 20-ish. Shifts are rotated in order to limit cross exposure. Even bathroom breaks and lunches must be considered. On top of that, a lot of the admin and white collar work is being handled remotely. This can work really well for the most part, but it makes it difficult for direct communication between the person taking the orders and the guy on the floor putting it together. I'm running into this in my line of work. Demand is through the roof, but most people simply don't understand how fragile the supply chain is even on a macro level. I have a product that I sell that is made almost entirely stateside. However, a couple of specialty fasteners come from overseas that are crucial in putting the thing together. There were boxes and boxes of them here, a calculated inventory to maintain production in the event that there was a minor breakdown in the chain as that happens from time to time. Well, after 2 months of burning through them, the boxes are empty. Peter has been robbed multiple times, but now even Paul's pockets are empty. There simply is no more to be had until that production plant gets back on its feet. Even then, it will have a backlog of orders that will grind shipping to a crawl. Pretty much every industry is feeling this right now.

The other issue is that people think the sky is falling. My LGS, Academy, and even Dick's is out of ammo. We have had exactly 4 extremely peaceful and lawful protests downtown with no issues between the folks out there and our police. Still, everyone locally is stocking up to the gills on guns and ammos for self defense, home defense, and fighting off anything else they can figure out how to be scared of. The next wave will be due to the election as Biden is on record of being pretty hard against higher magazine capacity and there are several Senate seats that are in play. I would suggest just settling in, grabbing a few boxes of ammo when you see them, and maybe shooting less. I haven't been in months. Mostly to stay at home and keep my distance from folks as I am around an at-risk family member on a regular basis and a few contractors I work closely with had be hit with COVID, but I mostly don't want to burn through my stock should I want to go shooting at a later date as I'm too dang busy to enjoy a trip to the range currently.

After the craziness that ensued surrounding the election of barry, I vowed to never again be in want/need of .22 lr, primers, powder, high cap mags, etc. I bought often, and in serious bulk when the price was right and I had the means.

People be stoopid and not learn from history....

My favorite LGS is located downtown of one of the country's leading progressive bastions. The pistol cases are almost bare, with just a few generally high-end guns left, or specialty like a Seecamp .32 or AMT DAO .380. Revolvers are gone too, with generally collectors, single-action, or hunting guns left. You can get a hunting shotgun, but something like like a used Win 1300 defender is long gone.

Weird coincidence. Up in post #3 of this thread I said I didn’t think S&W was up and running. About an hour ago I got a Fed-Ex notification that they had picked up my gun from S&W and would deliver it on Monday.

Odd. I usually get a call from them but that’s okay, my model 60 Pro is coming home. I hope they fixed it this time.

I am bidding on a gun right now that most wouldn't consider and there are around 12 bidders now. And it still has 11 days to go. I don't expect to win it.

At Gunbroker there are 417 pages of handguns for sale. How is it that folks can't find guns?

Anything that will shoot is being bid on. If you bid on something expect other bidders like never before wanting the same gun as you.

The supply at most of my LGSs is very low but there are a few that have good inventory.
I stop by at least 5 gun shops each week and I have seen the shelves become bare. According to a couple of the shop owners the problem is in the supply chain. The distributors are not keeping up.
I lucked out a couple weeks ago and found a new Taurus 942 8 shot .22 snub. Snatched it right up for my wife. I was very surprised to see one in the case. Affordable revolvers are nearly Unicorns these days.

My LGS had a decent supply of pistols and revolvers, I bought my minty 686-4 a week before they and some other gun stores in the area were broken into and most of the pistols and revolvers were stolen.
They took 17 handguns in 48 seconds flat according to the cameras.
It was a sick sight to see all the counters empty. I'm glad I didn't hesitate to buy the 686-4 or I would have lost it.

Once more, it's not the manufacturers or retailer, but the distribution system. Manufacturers produce and distributors buy at a certain 'flow through' rate..Demand went off the page(for whatever reason), disrupted that 'rate'. BUT, manufacturers aren't going to make huge changes to increase anything(most can't) and distributors aren't either because they see this as temporary, event driven..remember, this whole gig is only about 4 months old, 4 MONTHS. So, this durable good(guns and ammo) will eventually catch up..IMHO. TP has, chicken cutlets and pasta has..and those are consumables...

The gun stores in my area have pretty empty shelves. I don’t think it’s “a conspiracy” I think it’s people panic buying. As for Gun Broker? Most people have no clue what Gun Broker is. We know but for kicks I asked some guys at work yesterday (they were talking about the gun shortage) if they looked at online auction sites or online gun lists like Gun Broker it Arms List. They had no idea they existed. These guys own guns but they aren’t avid shooters.

When I drive by gun stores and ammo stores here in SoCal I see people waiting to get in. We still have limits on how many people can be in a store here.

The other day, in search of a specific rifle case, I waited 15 minutes to get into my favorite LGS. They had several nice new stainless S&W revolvers for sale. I said I was surprised they had handguns and the counter guy said “No one seems to want revolvers.”
I laughed and said “They will. Every other gun store’s online page says they have no handguns at all.”
He said “They probably do have some. Things sell so quickly they don’t bother updating their web pages.”
:what:
So, perhaps this is the case with lots of places. They are getting guns in but people look at websites and find everything appears to be sold out so they assume there is NOTHING available.
It’s a theory...I don’t intend to stand in lines to verify my theory.

I agree. It will catch up. It always does.
