Anyone Having a hard time finding caps?

I have about 100 each of 11 and 10, but I JUST started back into the BP game, and I don't even have a dadgum nipple wrench for my 1851 44 Pietta. But if worst came to worst..I have enough for an afternoon of casual shooting or Mad Max action.

Don't let the nipples rust in place.
Clean and grease them or use anti-seize.

RMC has a US made nipple wrench. --->>> https://www.ebay.com/itm/RMC-Revolver-Nipple-Wrench-Item-ML063-/353007435808

I haven't tried Ted Cash but it's also made in the US. --->>> https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nipple-Wre...993441?hash=item5b31f26661:g:iqAAAOSw14xWNlZg

Many cheaper imported wrenches are prone to break.

I went through a couple wrenches before finding one that works. I ended up with this one from totw, out of stock now but it works well. The ones linked above look good too. Just make sure it has the smaller tip on it to fit the 1858, the first wrench I bought made for "revolvers" was way too big to fit the recess around the nipple.

All the nipple wrenches I have handled are junk, not to say there aren't good ones out there. A good nipple wrench is easy to make. I buy 3/16 1/4 drive sockets at swap meets for fifty cents. Try standard and deep to see what you like better. For a handle, you can use a 1/4 socket wrench, breaker bar, I like using a 1/4 nut driver you can even drill and tap the handle for a nipple pick from an old nipple wrench.
Tools needed
Dremel or portable grinder with a thin cutting disk.
Small file set from a craft store, HF, or hardware store. If you own a cap and ball revolver you should own a set.
Some kind of vice
Making the wrench
Put the socket in a vice cut a slot across the top of the socket with a cutting disk big enough to fit a thin file. Using the small files file slot so a nipple fits nicely fits the slot. It takes about ten minutes to do.
Nipple wrenches made from 3/16 fit all my revolvers NMA, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, Walker, and 1849 pocket pistol. Some 3/16 sockets need the outside ground down a little to fit the pocket pistol.

I stay away from cci 10s, they dont fit anything stock that i own and the only nipples they fir are the RMC stainless steel nipples...which are of great quality and use them for my homemade caps. But forget trying to get tje cci 10s to fit slixshots or any of the other after market name brand nipples...they kinda fit piettas but you usually have to make the hammer hit them hard twice before theyll seat and ignite. The only caps i feel are worth the money are Remington 10s and 11s of which i keep a stock pile...and i have some cci 11s that i have stored just cuz they wete free (5 tins) and about 6 tins of cci 10s that i only use on RMC stainless nipples whenever i place them on a gun to shoot homemade caps. I have had great luck with stock pietta nipples and really like their stainless ones too...i use these with my homemade caps as remington 11s are a bit too big fot them. So stock pietta nipples get homemade caps, RMC get homemade caps and CCI 10s, and Slixshot nipples get Remington 11s and CCI 11s (until i finish the cci 11s tins i got left).

One time I got a few bricks of #10 CCI caps in a trade. In the trade, I got a #10 nipple for my 50cal rifle. I turned a set of stock nipples on my drill press using emery cloth. I think I still have those nipples somewhere.

I saw that, I was hoping they would be as cheap. Never that lucky!

Still an OK price I guess if you use them, don't understand why the Remingtons have gone up to $9.
Because the Remingtons work best so the demand is higher. That's my experience anyway, they are what most people I know prefer.

This CA outfit has both #10 and #11 Remington caps in stock @ $6.14 and $5.69 respectively.
They even list their inventory, 13.3K of #10's and 11.5K of #11's.
Their hazmat fee is $35, plus a separate shipping charge would be added at checkout.
So they would be quite expensive unless making a volume purchase.

My local gun store has remington 11s for $3.19. I usually get 10 packs or so at a time just to stock up

There are some cap vendors that offer flat rate shipping apparently without any hazmat fee.
One such outfit informed me in an online chat that they are not currently shipping any primers or caps, even though the web page didn't specify that.
But perhaps some of the other vendors are shipping, although they don't have any Remington #10's.

I found the vendors below by using an online search engine for percussion cap deals.
If someone can use another size and brand of caps, some will let a person purchase online.
Or they can call and inquire first.

I went to Idaho on vacation last week I went to Sportsmans Warehouse in Twin Falls they had #10 Remingtons, #11 CCIs in good supply for 5.99. They also had RWS caps and Musket caps but they were more money.

Sportsman's Warehouses in Denver Metro are clean out of all caps except the musket variety. However, JAX stores, which co-habitate the same geographic region, have plenty of caps.
