Bought a S&W M&P15 Sport II in Nov of 19 for $500. Came with case and loader. Looking now, they are all on back-order and the price is between $625 to $750. And .223 ammo is super hard to find in 500 to 1000 rd blocks.
Looking at other AR platforms it seems the same.

A few months before a presidential election is the worst time to buy guns, especially low end AR-15's. Factor in the pandemic and civil unrest and its literally the perfect storm of gun sales. Right now even normally easy to find semi auto rifles like Mini 14's and PTR 91's are no where to be found. So many large manufacturers of AR's now though I cannot see this lasting. Back in 2014 or so, I was at a gun shop picking up my 6920 when the owner showed me a pallet sized stack of S&W M&P15's he could not move at $500 per. I am willing to bet within 12 months we will see that again.

I expect ammunition to remain tight for the foreseeable future. The "pandemic" hype (you realize some people do believe there are going to be zombies) and a possible coupe in November driven by the left wing and their lap dog fake news media and the reappearance of the hair face ammunition resellers (the same ones I took photos of and handed out to store managers last go around). The ammo shelves are pretty bare (.22 all gone again), reloading shelves bare, gun racks nearly empty. Here we go again. I surely hope I am wrong and willing to be convinced that I am.

Funny thing is that I picked up a basically new Mini-14 from the pawn shop for $625 + tax 2 weeks ago.

All their ARs? Gone. They normally have a decent supply of them. No handguns left.

There ARE zombies! They go by the names "ANTIFA" and "BLM." ;)

I have a PSA AR in .223 I got as a kit for $350, grand total, which includes a $31 anderson receiver. I let some friends see it, they loved it, wanted one, and I told them where to go. That was when the industry was facing bankrupcy, and desperate. Now one of those people "needs one", a year later, and the same configuration is going to cost him $700.... "But why? Yours was only $350?". Now they accuse the industry of price gouging, for selling at fair market value.

I have a handful of buddies trying to buy ar15's at the moment, and I keep pointing out the several hundred dollars more they will spend if they buy right now. And I don't have any extras to sell them. Wish I had bought a bunch of low tier ar15's when I sold my truck last year, I could easily doubled my money...

Panic waves have been affecting gun sales since the 1990’s Clinton bans.
And my friends joke and wondered why I’ll buy ammo almost any time I see it at a decent price.
I’m set for a loooong while. Those who snickered and shook their heads are scrambling. ;)

Stay safe.

The "Crazy Gun Dealer" is still advertising basic AR rifles for $300 with ammo and accessory purchase.

I haven't been down to Alvarado to check out his store though.

The movie with Will Smith, the zombies were created when a rabies vaccine was used as a host or carrier for some other virus (if I am not getting the zombie movies mixed up). Well, there is this thing called amplification, one of the reasons/concerns it sometimes takes years to test out an effective and safe vaccine. So, I was reading along, and low and behold but one of the vaccines that could be useful to fast track a Wuhan virus vaccine and it was a rabies vaccine.

I am set on .22 ammo, if they never made any ever again, but a little light elsewhere.

It's called supply and demand. When the demand is high and the supply is low prices go up. This works the same for anything people buy. Toilet paper :p, food, gasoline, clothes, guns, ammo and so on. It's capitalism at work.

I see Colt is releasing the LE 6920's again, it will be interesting to see MSRP as opposed to Dealer price.

Also amazing is how fast the shelves cleared of them too. The only black rifles remaining are the top end models that carry $2,000 price tags.

I’m still finding good deals on components here and there but I have seen a sharp uptick in prices for complete uppers from several places and some longer shipping times.

Im thankful I’ve added 7 complete builds in the last 18 months or so with enough stripped lowers to finish kids’ builds if needed. With several months of record firearm sales I believe there will be a dip in the market before November as manufacturers look to reduce inventories before the election. If one side wins their future is questionable, the other, likely a sharp decline in sales.

There are two different kinds of gun buying panics: election panics, which mainly affect people already interested in guns, and natural disaster / civil unrest panics, which affect everybody else. The silver lining this time is that "black gun" ownership is increasing among people that didn't own them before. In turn, this is going to make efforts to ban them more difficult.

I jumped into the AR market today. I bought a Anderson AR for $599 and I know that they were $400 to $450 in Jan. With the election in Nov.
and manufacturing at 50% at best ; I bought one before the price goes higher.
