Has anyone noticed the 9mm load data in the sierra manual #6 changed drastically from the previous manual.

For 9mm 115 gr using Unique the max is shown as 5.4 grains in #6 and it was 6.6 in #5. The classic 115 gr unique load is 6 grains so I am surprised that they now say that is over max.

The way I understand the changes in the manuals industry wide are due to better test equipment that can find problems and lawyers advise to keep them out of trouble.

Is the 'classic' load based on using a Sierra bullet at the OAL used in the Sierra Manual?

Are you using the hardcopy manual or the app/subscription? I haven't cross-referenced with a a book but there's some pretty significant differences in .38 Super data between #5 and #6.
On the app, they also incorrectly list bullet #8120 as JHP. Curious if the book does this as well?

Load data contains 2 parts: powder weight and OAL. Did they shorten their OAL ?

I see some places shortening their OAL which reduces the powder for the same chamber pressure.

I am using the hard copy book and yes they list the 8120 as JHP.

I see some places shortening their OAL which is lower the load for the same chamber pressure.

For the FMJ the OAL is the same. 1.100" For the JHP the 5th edition list 1.050" in the 6th the list 1.500" which is clearly a misprint because SAAMI max AOL 1.169 and the bullet and the case combined are shorter than 1.5"

That's what I was wondering. The data I have for 5th edition is only a PDF for 38Super. It shows OAL as 1.275 for the #8120 FMJ, but 6th shows same OAL of 1.210 for that bullet and the JHP. The 9mm data in the subscription app shows OAL for the 125gr #8120 as 1.090, and JHP OAL of 1.030

Did the OAL change between #5 and #6?

Current Speer online load data lists 6.3 gr as max for 115 gr Speer TMJ and Unique using 1.135" OAL (TMJ is thick plated RN) - https://reloading-data.speer-ammo.c...m_caliber_355-366_dia/9mm_Luger__115_rev1.pdf
  • 9mm 115 gr Speer TMJ Unique OAL 1.135" Start 5.6 gr (1166 fps) - Max 6.3 gr (1244 fps)
And current Alliant online load data lists 6.0 gr as max for 115 gr Speer regular plated RN - https://www.alliantpowder.com/reloa...owderlist.aspx&type=1&powderid=3&cartridge=23
  • 9mm 115 gr Speer plated RN Unique OAL 1.135" Max 6.0 gr (1217 fps)
