Tell me about the Sig Hammerli pistols

Back on topic....

I have both 4 and 6 inch Target models. I shoot the 4 inch just a tad better. They both outshoot my Clark Custom Ruger and High Standard Victor by a hair. I attribute that to the Target grips on the Sigs.

This is my 4 inch Target model that has served me well without issue.

For the performance and the fact that these aren’t made anymore, I think $500 for the gun with 5 mags is a good value.

It definitely is a good price. The Hämmerli X-esse is still made in Germany by Walther and that ensures customer support for years to come! The price for a new one, as can be seen on Walther's German website, is a steep Euro 949 for the IPSC and EURO 999 for the Sport model!

The good thing about THR is that there is an ignore function and I am on this site and TFL long enough to be able to use it. Bye bye Call1911:).

With five magazines, I would buy that in a heartbeat for $500.

The Trailside is probably the best shooting .22 LR you can find in that price range, or for even nearly twice as much.

They are tackdrivers and have a very good adjustable factory trigger that can be made even better with Larry's trigger kit.

They do have some issues though. As mentioned, some early models had the trigger guard slightly out of spec and have to be corrected with a bit of filing.

The slide's soft metal doesn't wear well when slide stop lever is used to release the slide. It's best to pull the slide back on a fresh magazine to avoid the slide stop wearing down the slide stop notch until it no longer works.

They are designed for standard velocity cartridges so high velocity rounds may cause accelerated wear.

For $35 each, the magazines appear to be of really cheap quality but they work just fine unless the feed lips get mangled. I haven't had any issues in 15 years, though.

Larry's Guns is the go-to place for anything Trailside/Xesse related. They are also just about the only support available in the US, but they are good to deal with.

I own only one .22LR pistol and it is a 6" Trailside target model. It is one of my most enjoyable guns to shoot and is far more accurate than I am.

Larry"s is closed since a while.

Larry"s is closed since a while.

I thought the business was bought and continued after Larry Carter died, but it looks like you are right.

Larry was the only name on the FFL and he only had one employee, DeAnna. When Larry died, the Carter family let DeAnna go.

Apparently, the inventory was purchased by Red Feather Outfitters in Ohio in 2018. The Larrys website is saying that they are only accepting orders by phone.

I tried calling them to see what services and products they offer but the call went to voicemail and the message said they were open Thursday through Sunday only.

The message also said they were Cardinal Pistol and Rifle Range but the website lists both that business and Red Feather Outfitters which is the company that took over Larry's Guns.

I'll try again tomorrow because a lack of support for Hammerli products in the US could be a deal killer, plus I've been wanting one of their scope mounts and this thread reminded me of it.

Yeah. it was discussed on some forums that Larry's is defunct and the parts that he had made, such as barrel weights and mag extensions, are increasing in value and are much sought after now..

I called the store/range today and someone immediately answered and confirmed that Red Feather Outfitters has taken over Larry's parts business and that they do have at least some parts in stock.

They have the Trailside scope mount and trigger kit in stock, but I didn't ask about any other parts.

He also confirmed that they are not doing any of the gunsmithing work that Larry Carter did which is disappointing.

To place an order, you have to go the larrysguns.com website main page and email a Yahoo email address.

I am going to order a Trailside scope mount while they're still available and will update with how the process works out.

So, at present, there is still parts support in the US but there is no one dedicated to the repair and upgrades that Larry provided.

MarshallDodge,

Did you get the Trailside? If so, how do you like it?

I ordered the Trailside scope mount from Red Feather Outfitters and while communication and shipping with them was a bit slow, the scope mount arrived today which means there is at least still some parts support for the Trailside/Xesse line.
