Went down to the cabin finally and brought three handguns to do some informal shooting with.
First was my oldest handgun; a S&W M&P40 I bought in 2007 and is my current nightstand pistol. I mentioned a few months ago that I realized that I hadn't fired it in probably five years and had long forgotten what loads were in it.
I rectified that yesterday.
2nd was my P365, which is my carry pistol and goes everywhere with me. I just wanted to shoot it to maintain familiarity.
3rd was my latest acquisition, a Remington 1911 R1 Limited match gun in .40 S&W. I had only shot it once before and was not all impressed with the accuracy. Some mentioned that it just needed to break in a bit, and I needed to get used to the trigger.
I fired off-hand at 10 yards and at 25 yards, lacking any kind of bench at the cabin range. I fired a few 5-shot groups and then did some drills with the steel reactive target.
Didn't want to burn any more precious ammo than I had to, so only 100 rounds or so.
All three pistols were flawless, but firing three different handgun with three different trigger styles was eye opening.
First group fired with the 1911 was mediocre, while the second one tightened up considerably to what I considered pretty darn good for offhand at ten yards using cheap Federal Brass 180gr FMJ...
The P365 showed excellent potential as well...
I had thought for S&Gs I would place the little 2" by 3" paper separator that came in the Federal bulk pack on the target and try to hit it from 25 yards away offhand.
Totally missed it by 2" to the right with the P365 and nicked it twice with the 1911, just to the left, getting about a 2.5" group. Not bad.
Overall, it was a good session. The 1911 is settling in and showing some pretty good accuracy potential.
Shooting all three guns at speed at the reactive target revealed that the P365 is almost too small. It worked, but it was obviously handicapped compared to the full-size pistols.
