So I decided to try some power pistol as my second powder following AA#9.

I got to 13.5gn AA#9 with about 1300 FPS but an ES over 100. 180gn RMR bullet.

Today I tried 9.0gn of Power Pistol and got 1200 FPS with an ES of 70 and SD of 15 off 45 shots. 180gn RMR bullet.

I'm going to keep working up on the power pistol it felt pretty light.

Cant wait to try N105 and Longshot after I get up to 1300 with the PP.

What do you guys like to load for high vel 10mm?

I do pretty well with Blue Dot and also Longshot. I think I mentioned in another post that I will be doing a new load development for my M610. Great fun as it also shoots 40S&W quite well. Much more about the 10mm at the 10mm-firearms forum.

I’ve tried AA9, Blue Dot, Powerpistol and 800X and for real velocity 800X takes the cake with 180 gr bullets. I use 800x under 180 gr Hornady XTP for field carry. My powder weight is over max so I won’t share. Did several tests with a G20 and 6” Storm Lake barrel back in the day.

AA9 worked best with 200 gr bullets for me as well.

I use Blue Dot for 180 gr range loads and haven’t tried Longshot yet.

Is 800x really pushing far enough past 1300 to be worth hand trickling? I'd want 25 FPS over the next best I could load for the trouble or I'd just say it's not worth the effort.

I would love to hit 1400 with a 180 but I don't think it can be done safely. 1300 with AA#9 at 13.5 is good but I bet I can hit 1350 with N105 or Power Pistol, and if I swap to magnum primers I'm curious how AA#9 will perform for me. I liked my AA#9 loads but the ES & SD were atrocious.

I seem to get the most velocity with blue dot especially when loading the heavier bullets(180-200 grains).

I started playing around with Alliant's BE-86 recently and it seemed promising. It's basically a faster burning, flash suppressed formulation of power pistol.

I've loaded to Alliant's BE-86 book max of 8.5 grains and they were very stout loads. However, I do not have a chronograph to verify the book FPS. I used new starline brass, CCI LPP, and an RMR 180gr JFP to a COL of 1.255. This load produced flattened primers in my Glock 40. There were some intermittent flattened primers after loads of 8.2 grains of BE-86. I stuck my most accurate load of 8 grains.
I am looking forward to some chrono numbers on your BE-86 journey. Please keep us posted.

I'd imagine that was a fairly hot load. I've ran the same 8.5 grains behind a 165 for target loads and it was no 40 S&W load.

I try not to hot rod my 32 year old delta elite too much. Maybe when I put a 24 pound spring and recoil buffer I'll start running some pretty hot loads.

Unfortunately I have no chrono data for BE-86 at the moment. My chronograph had a little mishap a while back. I'll post some velocities whenever I get around to picking up a new one.

180 JHP and 9.0 of Longshot is 1275 in my 1911. About middle of the road. I have been shooting heavier (200 grain) bullets lately & found Power Pistol to be plenty, at a tic over 1200 FPS. For the heavy bullets (200) I'm sticking with a middle charge again of Power Pistol. In my gun with new brass it showed an extreme spread of only 8 FPS over a magazine full. Be safe.

All, just a reminder if you’re going to list powder loads over max listed please include the following per the Handloading and Reloading forum Requirements:

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The High Road, nor the staff of THR assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.

I’m not saying anyone has yet but just putting the word of caution out there.

Over book according to hornady, but under max for lee and hodgdon.

180 jhp 9.2 longshot in a g40 6" got me average 1333fps 33ES for 14 rounds.

Have power pistol and 800x to try over the chrono, need to find some #9 and blue dot maybe. Would be fun to see what's what.

AA9 got me over 1300fps with a 200gr XTP. I have room to go higher too but I won't, i see no need. I am using a 6.5" barrel and a s&w revolver and loading longer than you can from a magazine.

Hornady saying funny stuff on that 10mm page.

8.2 vs 9.5 on hodgdon for longshot
10.1 vs 8.7 on hodgdon for 800x

At the max charge of 8.5gn BE86 and 180 plated Xtreme, I got 1237fps, SD of 15. That was with Jagemann brass and Win WLP primers. I was just beginning to see signs of pressure. I settled on a production loading of 8.3gn based on that, at just over 1200fps. This was all done from a 4.75” barrel Witness Elite. I got more velocity than with Power Pistol. I also got similar velocity to Blue Dot or AA#9, with over 2 gn less powder, and cleaner burning. BE86 is my preferred powder for 10mm.

I’m not going for max velocity, though. I don’t want to beat my gun up, I’ve got bigger autoloaders if I want more velocity or recoil.

I can get over 1,400 FPS out of one of my 10mm pistols (using AA9). It's perfectly safe if you follow the manual.

What bullet? I've not been able to get past 1300~ AVG with 180gn RMR bullets and 13.5gn of AA#9 in starline brass with CCI primers in my glock 20.

I'd love 1400 with the powder I'm already familiar with. I was going to be happy with 1350 fps after experimenting with the four from my poll to find the best performer, thinking even 1350 might be a tad optimistic... so 1400, assuming an 180gn bullet, is really appealling.

I don't recall the bullet I chrono'd. It may have been Rainier or Berry's. Anymore I use coated bullets but I haven't chrono'd any of those in 10mm yet.

Again I warn, posting loads over max listed should have the THR disclaimer.

My Lee 2019 and hodgdon 2019 manuals both show 9.5 of longshot as the max for a 180 grain Sierra at 1287 fps/34600 psi. If I wasn't having trouble posting pictures with my phone I'd post the data. Although we are talking about a different bullet.

Disclaimer: Only use data you find in your manual for the specific bullet being used. The data I listed may be over max for some bullet styles. Don't trust people on the internet to give you safe data without verifying yourself.

I love 10MM and here is a good resource for over 110 10MM loadings including factory loads. http://www.dayattherange.com/?page_id=6173 -- This is the spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Fyj-rKIvGOvm4huvb35GaGMlyKhddtUDQhFi9VGrwLk/edit?usp=sharing
I would encourage you to view some of these loads if nothing more the 170gr to 180gr tab that has over 218 lines of data of chronographed loads. Please be safe if you are not aware of bulged brass, case blowout terminology you should be with 10MM.

Took my new G20 with KKM barrel out and shot 800x loads with 180 gr XTP and the factory spring couldn’t handle it. Installed a 20 lb spring to slow down the slide a bit and fed fine from then on.
