8x Unertl question

I've been anxiously been waiting for someone to reply. I guess there aren't many Unertl experts in the crowd. That includes me.
I do know that a buddy of mine removed the recoil spring before a vintage sniper match and buggered up his cross hairs. That is a very valuable optic and I'd never recommend for you to do it. There are people who refurbish and repair them. I don't know any names but you could probably do a google search and find some options. The CMP Forum would be another place to ask this question. From what I have heard it won't be cheap and the wait times are pretty long.

i just talked to my dad about the unertl scopes. he told me a story about uncle bert showing my grandpa the cobweb he removed from inside grandpa's unertl scope. i guess he unscrewed the ocular lense piece and poked his finger down the scope tube to clean out the cobweb (crosshair). grandpa had to send the scope back to the factory to get a new crosshair.
anyway, i don't think the unertle scopes were either sealed (other than by the fine threads) or nitrogen filled. have you tried sealing the scope tube in a container of rice? that worked very well when someone close dropped a cell phone in the toilet (three times in total). i just put the phone in a tupperware container half filled with rice, sealed the container and let it sit for a few days. it worked all three times.
