Close buddy is getting married: Sword?

Alright...

A really good buddy (brother from another mother) is getting married.

I want to give a kickass toast that ends with me presenting him a sword.

Thoughts? opinions?

My wife is on the fence, so I figured I'd ask THR LOL

Shotguns are more traditional for weddings, but that is a nice looking blade.

My neighbor the gunsmith and I took a wreck of a shotgun out of his junk box and fixed it up for a friend's wedding.
Painted the gun white and pink and fitted it with a white satin sling.

Looks like a scottish claymore. I’d love to have gotten one at my wedding instead of the silver coffee/tea set. Probably would have got a lot more use out of it.

I think that would be a cool gift.

My father in law have me an SKS for a wedding present... At the reception. So a shotgun would not be out of line in my family

I can almost guarantee you are going to have problems with the bride for the rest of their married life. A wedding celebrates a couple, not the husband or bride. The gifts should reflect that. A good set of steak knives would be more appropriate.

Honestly, I'm not too worried. His fiance is very sweet. And might appreciate the gift too.

If you are interested in the SCA stuff you might check here. I have gotten over a dozen pieces from them over the last couple of decades all of very good quality. What I have bought has been hand-forged in India or Pakistan.

You can order a custom sword with his initials on the blade or something like A&B with both of their initials. I just did that and it came to a little over $300. Select 'Custom' from the menu and go through the process. They also have coupons.
