Have $15,000 budgeted for a Custom 50BMG, does not include scope.

What should I get? And options. Don’t include options for a scope at this time. What parts would you get? Subtract an appropriate amount for a custom cerakote job as well.

Are they all bolt fed, or are their any semi auto’s other then of course the classic browning bmg?

The only one I have seen in action is the Armalite, two of them in my circle of friends. I have seen one only at 100 yards, just a big noisemaker.
The other I have seen in action at 600 yards with good ammo and it is quite accurate.
It is also very strong. Second hand report says that if you fail to dump the Varget out of your powder measure before filling with H50BMG, you will need help getting the bolt open. It won't be broken, though. If you beat the bolt open and load the next round apparently only part Varget, the bolt will be stiff but not have to be knocked open. Normal after that.

I know a guy who has a McMillan .50, an older one in a conventional stock, not one of the current modular or chassis rigs. Looks like a great big Remington 700 and very well made. No range report, though.

I have a Barrett M99. I paid somewhere around 3k a few years ago. Another 50 shooter I've encountered purchased a barrett M82 for iirc $9-$10k.

So far I've killed 3 junk scopes and 2 red dots with it and one Nikon.
They were junk scopes anyway and I wanted to see if .50 really will kill inexpensive scopes.
It will.

I have a Millet on her at the moment and its holding up fine so far.
Spend and buy a GOOD scope.

I have one. Make sure you shoot one a few times before you buy one. The weight And the recoil are not something most people want to put up with.

Do you want a semi or single shot? I'm glad I have a single shot. What are you going to shoot with it? Targets or Hogs, targets?

50's cost a lot but are very satisfying.
Custom guns cost a lot. Is it worth it?
Weigh your choices wisely...........

I have a Serbu BFG50 bolt rifle and it's damn well made. If I could come up with the money I'd be getting their semi auto version. One day. The rifle I own has been stretched out to 600 yards and with surplus ammo I was able to hit a coffee can several times at that range.

If you want a real custom 50 with Cadillac style.. Do not settle for those off the shelf modern dime a dozen 50s..

Go for tried and true old world historic styling class at a fraction of the cost

OP said custom and I haven’t seen any suggestions so far made outside a factory

I’d hit the FCSA up and see what those guys are shooting in their benchrest league. No personal experience though

I am used to heavy loads with a 45-70 and a 454 Casull. Not looking to fire this gun in anything but a sitting or prone position. So eight not a huge issue. Recoil is my buddy! :)

Im aware of the cost. Not an issue within reason. Like I said have a $15k budget for gun alone.

The three uses for the gun... 1. Target shooting of fun targets such as fruit, vegetables. Tannerite, water jugs/barrels etc, 2. Feral hogs, and last but not least 3. Self defense if civil war or riots start erupting, or abusive illegal government actions.

I would prefer a semi-auto, unless quality and cost become an issue.

Good grief. How did this fellow survive Grade School?

You said custom, what kind of custom do you want? One for shooting matches or one to take to the range and plink?

Look at some custom .50 makers if you want a match rifle. AAA-Ammo makes custom match rifles that have won plenty of matches. Same with State Arms/East Ridge Guns, Spider Firearms, McMillan, McBros...

Barrett does not make a match or sniper rifle, they make anti-material rifles. The AR-50 has become the AR-15 of the .50 world. It's a great. 50, very light recoil, easy to use and one that a lot of people like.

Serbu makes another great rifle, bolt and semi. If you want an accurate semi, I would definitely look at theirs. Has already proven to out shoot Barretts semi as it doesn't have a reciprocating barrel.

There are a lot of others, you'll have to make a decision on what you want. Then start looking at the manufacturers out there and then ask questions about them.

I have my own acreage ranch that I will shoot on. My own personal range. Will be shooting fun targets like vegetables, and fruit, as well as tannerite, and water barrels etc.... shoot feral hogs. And god forbid Self defense if the SHTF. I prefer semi, for those multiple feral hog situation where maybe I can knock out 3-4 quickly, as well as for those SHTF situations.

Look at Serbu's BFG50A semi, call the shop and talk to Mark. If you don't like what you see or hear, look into the Barrett M82 or 107.

The M2 is just to big to be portable and the Boyes in original design is a .55 Cal. The .55 Boyes isn't as powerful as a 50 BMG and trying to find ammo for it is next to impossible. That's why most were converted to 50 BMG here in the states.

The Accuracy International semi is vaporware, don't know why it was never brought to market.

Then there's the Lynx, if you can find someone that has one for sale or an FFL that could get one imported, be prepared to pay an arm and both legs for it.

Were I in your shoes, it meant I made better decisions than I did!:D

But if I were, I would go to GunBroker and buy a new McMillan NiBor 50 BMG receiver. Then I would send it to PAC-NOR to have them chamber, install and headspace a brand new lapped 33” straight taper polished barrel, then lap and true the whole assembly. Afterward I would need to think.
Classy benchrest low-pro stock with Cadillac Pearl paint and polished front rest with a matching polished scope and mount?

Or F-Class Dreadnought, flat black chassis, Mystik bi-pod, black scope and mount, and a charcoaled clear coat over the polished bits?

The muzzle break needs to be permanently installed and blended in. Stylized like a Lamborghini and smoke coated as well. Like the Cadex MX1 but not a clamp on.

That leaves like $8,000 for ammunition to try and burn the barrel out, but I don’t think 1600 rounds would do it...;)

I have a bushmaster bolt gun. It is very accurate as it will put the shots in the same hole as the first bullet if I do my part. Like I said earlier you need to shoot a 50 a few times. I am not recoil sensitive and also I have the firearms you mentioned. I also have a 338 Lapua. A 50 BMG is nothing like any of those.

The mistakes people make about the .50 is recoil, being so big, the recoil must match. Look at the end of the barrel on a .50, that massive muzzle brake has been designed to cut down a lot of the felt recoil.

Next is price, .50 rifles don't cost any more then an average custom rifle that you can buy. In fact if you shop around, you'll find that a .50 is probably cheaper.

Ammo, being that our armed forces use multiple .50's, that helps keep the price down on ammo. The only ammo that you'll pay more for is match grade ammo. If you look around you'll see that the average price for match grade .50 is about $5 a round. That's on average with match grade ammo in smaller rounds.

It also pays to reload, that will cut your cost in half. Being conservative on your loads will help save your brass from being ruined. Some guys have got 20+ reloads on their brass! At a dollar a piece new, that works out to .5 cents for a piece of .50 brass over its life!

So, owning and shooting a .50 isn't as bad as some people would have you think.

As for a scope, if you're not shooting matches, you don't need a $2,500 scope. S.W.F.A. sells the old tasco super sniper scopes for $300. Whatever they had done to them by whoever's making them now, they've done a good job. The old ones didn't hold up well to the .50's recoil and died a violent death! The newer ones seem to be doing well, haven't heard of to many failures.

Heck, if I have $15,000 for a 50 cal I'm buying an Accuracy International and a good suppressor.
