5-10 yards regularly 20 yards occasionally.
If youve never shot your rifle closer than 25 yards, how do you know where you need to aim with you AR (and a few others) for a quick precision shot? There is another range I can go to that is a 25 yard range and does allow a little creativity but it’s one of those “giggle-boy” ranges where mall ninjas and tactical Nimrods go to fire their ARs and M1A’s at 25 yard targets.
Oh, and they all have muzzle brakes because that is all California allows do they must install them and shoot them...indoors...

I shoot one of mine that way at least once a week.Every weekend?
I'm going to try that at the range tomorrow. I've been shooting handguns only in the 5-15 yard range so far, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes at 20-25 yards. 25 yards is the limit at the indoor range I go to.Practice at extended range then move up to 7-15 yards and your groups will be small.
I do all my shooting in the backyard on steel so my distances are estimated, I did measure with my wheel but don’t make any marks concerning distance. On my private range (outdoor, primarily steel targets) it's 7-40 yards.
When I'm running classes (indoor range), it's 0-25 yards.
I find myself shooting at 15 or further most of the time on the private range.

Agreed. I shoot my AR’s from 7 yards out to 200 and everywhere in between.
Heaven forbid I ever need to use that weapon up close, I want to know my hold.
There seems to be a difference in mentalities here.I have in the past a time or two did pretty much a mag dump from the hip with my AR at 15 yds or so. Not for any useful reason, but because it's fun to pretend you're Rambo now and then.
With the current ammo situation I don't think I'll be wanting to empty 30 rounds in 15 seconds any time soon.
