2EBB36EF-23EC-42D5-8442-CD6075195469.jpeg I picked up a Magpul MS1 two point sling. Is it ok to attach it on the A post or will the webbing melt when the barrel gets hot?

I’ve melted straps on my chronograph on my barrel, much thicker than you have there - not to mention the heat it will feel from being wrapped around the gas block, not just the barrel.

Wouldn’t be my personal method of attachment. But hey, go dump a few mags and report back, maybe it’ll be fine.

Yes it will probably catch on fire and then melt off.
Use the front sling swivel that is already provided on the rifle.

Here's my setup for using 2 point slings. I'm left handed.
Sling goes over head and off hand arm (right arm). In a hurry it just goes over my head / neck.

I agree there are better ways to mount a sling, but how often does a barrel get hot enough to melt nylon? I see it with an automatic weapon, but does firing a 30 rounds of 223 get the barrel that hot?

I shoot bolt action rifles 99+% of the time, so I have no experience with this.

Your sling will melt off during the first wave; after that, there will be plenty of other weapons you can pick up off of the ground.

Thanks all, I was experimenting with it as shown thinking it would be the proper angle for right hand muzzle down carry. After reading the responses I moved it to the already attached swivel. Turns out it works fine there as the webbing has enough flex for the rifle to lay correctly while sling.

I've seen one guy loop 550 cord through the forward sling swivel, come across the top of the handguard, and tie off to the other side of the swivel... looped a cheapo two-point through that... did the same at the butt swivel and slung it M-60 style. Dunno how good of an idea it was. Seen some others like in post #11, or looped the sling directly through the A-frame.

Yup!
It'll melt in very little time.
Did that with an ersatz "sling" made from mule tape eons ago. It'll smoke and smolder.
By then it's almost done and you can't get it off the barrel quick enough to not melt to the barrel and charr.

I miss that cetme

I have attached a sling to the delta ring using paracord. Someone told me the gas tube would melt it but I took a high round count carbine class in 90 degree heat and it didn't have an issue. There was a little air gap which probably helped.

I mounted a sling like that in a SKS 200 rounds into a run and the sling mount burned through the nylon.
There was maybe 30 seconds down time between mags because we each had a mag to reload while the other person shot.
I learned to use metal as an initial contact point.

Well....it depends on how fast you pull the trigger.....the faster you pull the trigger....the faster the sling will melt to the barrel and smell horrible.....
