Has Remington ever offered the Sendero series of rifles without a fluted barrel? Came across a pawn shop find today that I can’t pass up. It’s a 7mm Rem Mag Model 700 with a heavy, non-fluted barrel and HS Precision stock. I wasn’t really interested in it at the time or I would have gotten some pictures. Got home and realized that I have a threaded 300 WM barrel sitting in the ammo closet that I could spin on that rifle. I think it was marked around $600, so I text my buddy that runs the shop and he tells me I can have it for $325! Done! Put it behind the counter and I’ll pick it up tomorrow.

It’s got a rattle can paint job on it that I’m going to cover up eventually, but for $325, I can’t beat that. The stock is worth that much. I don’t guess it really matters, but I’ve been wondering if that rifle is a Sendero or what? I’m not aware of Remington offering anything with an HS Precision stock from the factory other than the Senderos, the Police models and the 5R Mil-Specs. Am I missing something?

The varmint synth and sendero were blued w no flutes initially. Then came the stainless fluted models. However, there were blued fluted non catalogued models

I’m going to get a closer look in the morning, but I may have been mistaken on in regards to the stock. It felt like an H.S. Precision with that big palm swell in the wrist of the stock, but it may have been one of the Bell and Carlson M40 stocks found on the M700 Long Range. $325 is a solid deal at any rate, but not the screaming deal that it is if this rifle is indeed a Sendero.

Look at the back of the recoil pad. It should say - HS Precision if it is indeed an HS Precision stock.

I have 5 Remington rifles with HS Precision stocks, and all of the recoil pads have their name on them.

Ah...pad says Remington, so maybe it is not an H.S. Precision. I’m about to go break this thing down and scrub the paint off of it. I‘ll look for branding on the stock.

That is an HS precision made for Remington. The shape and duel sling mounts on the forearm sort of give it away for me. It is likely a PST014 stock from HS. Remington would buy the stocks from HS Precision without the recoil pads so they could put their Remington Super-Cell recoil pads on them.

Good idea!

We just looked at a buddy's Remington Sniper rifle and the recoil pad on it says Remington. We pulled up the Remington specs online, and it specifically lists it as an HS Precision stock! Go figure.

the bottom metal adds to the value to the magnum action along with the scope base.

One of the nice features of that HS Precision stock is the ability to use standard bottom metal or HS Precision magazine conversion if your needs could use that feature. Not cheap but still pretty slick. I believe the Badger Ordinance magazine conversion bottom metal will fit that stock also.

I went ahead and shot a rattle can paint job on it. When I scrubbed off the old paint it bacame pretty apparent that returning it to factory look was not gonna happen. I think I’ll leave it in 7mm Rem Mag at least through deer season this year and decide if I want to spend the money having it re-barreled and Cerakoted. Why not add another cartridge to the ammo closet? As soon as the paint is dry, I’ve got a Burris Veracity 3-15x50 I’m gonna throw on top of it. I was going to replace the EGW base with a Talley 20 MOA I have laying around, but the screws are stripped in the action and I don’t really feel like dealing with those today.

Headed to the range now to see how she shoots. Pretty much convinced myself to re-barrel to 300 WM and have it Cerakoted, but if it shoots pretty well, I’ll leave it be, I suppose. I just have a bunch of 300 WM ammo and zero 7mm RM other than what I bought this morning to try it out. 90C3DF61-C108-4883-92FA-E2B550FB08FC.jpeg

I am NOT going to re-barrel until this barrel is toast. I know it looks like six rounds, but I must have knocked paint off of a previous impact on the lower right, because I only fired five and I know the fifth round impacted low and right of the first four. Pretty stoked with this rifle.

.284 > .308

You have funny math .284 < .308 unless you have different definition of < and > than the rest of us. :neener:

If you are recoil tolerant .308 will do better in a exteriar ballistics point of view. The larger that caliber the lower the BC that is achievable if you can tolerate the recoil.

I skipped math class and went straight to physics. :neener:

nice shooting rifle you got there, wouldn't change a thing.

The physics says the BC for a .308 is greater than .284 for the same form factor of a bullet (shape), again if you can tolerate the recoil.
