How many magazines, first time gun owner

The only guns for which I have purchased extra magazines are my AK and my 10/22. The AK came with a single 5-rd. mag and I bought over the next 18 months 4 - 40 rd. "banana" magazines and 2 - 75 rd. drum magazines. I bought a second Ruger 10 rd. magazine and several Ramline plastic mags, 30 & 50 rd., 4 ea.
The Keltec PMR-30 came with a pair and I haven't bought more. My Astra .380 came with one and I did buy a second one about 15-20 years ago.

I think that you'd be well served with about 2 to 3 quality AR Mags per AR-15, the ones I choose are Lancer AWM's and PMAG Gen 3's. I prefer 20 round mags as they are versatile and fit well and I've honestly never been able to wear a mag out, all the metal ones I used to use before PMAGS came along still work and I still have them.

If you've never worn one out then you're not shooting enough.....or you're one of the few guys that doesn't leave them stuffed full 24/7.

I leave my pistol and a couple of AR mags loaded 24/7 365.... Never had an issue or wore them out. For a few of my most carried firearms, i purchased extra springs and followers. The magazine body will outlast me. Even still, I never wore out any of my mags, and I've been collecting for years.

If you shoot at a range that charges per hour for a shooting spot, having enough magazines so as to NOT waste your hour loading magazines.

I always run out of ammo long before my hour is up even if I have to load mags using a mag loader.. Out of curiosity, how many rounds are you firing per range session?

It depends on intended usage but I don’t understand the people who have 100+ for one gun.

Id say 3 for most guns. 10 for an AR, 6 for defensive pistol.

I’d be interested to know how many somebody like Jerry Miculak has.

Well, I do not use the pay by the hour range anymore, The outdoor rifle/pistol range I am a member of now it 20 minutes hot 20 minutes cold and open from 9AM to 1PM. I can put a couple hundred rounds down range depending what I am shooting. Most range trips include a 22LR a handgun and a rifle. Sometimes everyone is on the pistol line so I go rifle, or the other way around.

Started this hobby in early March, so im late to the party......
Welcome aboard!
....But as a new gun owner how many magazines is needed for each firearm that you own?
My minimum of total mags per firearm is 6. For my carry guns, that means I can have 1 in the gun, 2 spares on my belt, and 'out of rotation' at any given time. I prefer to have at least 10 for each gun. The indoor range that I use charges by the hour and I'd rather spend my time shooting than loading magazines.
....my new Sig P365.... the P365 will be my carry, I only need a enough to practice and test as it won't be a dedicated range gun......
I don't own one, but I hear that the P365 is a really good choice. Congratulations! That said, see my comments above about ranges that charge by the hour and magazine rotation.

But New Jersey's ruling is lso precedent. And even if the Supreme Court of Colorado ruled that the law stands as written there's nothing in that ruling that prevents somebody else from introducing another bill that repeals that statue and replaces it with a stricter law.

Other than the fact that Polis has stated that he wants to close the "loopholes" in the current law what that might look like is sheer speculation and I admit that. My point is you shouldn't assume that your magazines are replaceable.
I don't assume anything but right now and probably for the remaining part of Polis' term, he'll have 'other' things on his plate. Selling magazine 'kits' are probably pretty far down on the list.

3 for my 45ACP and 2 for my wifes 9mm. Don't own a rifle that takes a magazine. Seems like plenty to me I don't shoot in competitions and if I get past the first magazine in a defensive situation I'm probaby not going to need the others.
