I have a new to me HK VP9 that I inherited from my brother. I have now shot this pistol a number of times and it always appears to shoot low regardless of which ammo I load in it. Even at just 7 yds. I have to hold above the center to hit center. When holding center it is consistently 3" low at 7 yards. Also today the wife was with and she shot it for the first time and she too was low.

What to do?

Change ammo first different brands and grains, let someone else to try it, modify your grip size, indoor or outdoor range light might affect your shooting. What is your more frequent pistol to shoot trigger wise.
To begin with.

Have tried numerous different loads and weights with same results, have fired indoors and outdoors with same result. Shoot 10 different pistols in 4 calibers without this issue. Now with 2 different shooters as mentioned in original post it is still consistently low.

With this gun I have tried #1 and #2 and #2 with the whole center covered which then brings POI into the center or close to the center.

I don’t own a VP9 but you are not the only person who has had this issue.if you search there are a fair amount of posts similar to yours on HKpro. Might try sight pic 3

That may be true, but I surmise that this is your only HK and you own no classic Sigs.

Within 25 yards or so, you will have to "drive the dot" or use sight image 3. That is how HK sights are set up. Sight image 2 will match POA/POI at extended distances. Hold sight image 2 at a 50 yard target and you will be right on, IME. Shooting clay birds off a 50 yard berm is fun and the VP-9 is accurate enough to do it.

You can see that if a handgun is setup for sight image 3 and you use image 2, the POI will be low.

cougar1717 thank you that makes perfect sense now. And no I don't own a Sig either. I enjoy shooting this gun but I see now it will take some adjustment on my part with these sights.

Do you shoot a lot of Glock. A lot of Glock only or Glock heavy shooters cam their hands down as they shoot. It is due to the grip angle and becomes subconscious and only shows up on a video or when shooting another gun. I agree with @cougar1717 with a Sig or HK within 25 yards you need to shoot sight picture 3. People call it driving the dot or a combat sight picture. If it still does not correct itself with sight picture change there are different height sight options.

Yes, HK sights are set up for drive the dot, picture 3. It is very effective for self defense but not ideal for bullseye.

All three of my HKs had that set up, as do my two fixed sight Sigs.

Edit: To be clear, I still have two HKs. One of them had a lame trigger. Ditched it.

Yeah, it's set up for "drive the dot".

If you don't like it, front sights are available in a variety of heights.

That's why I bought the long slide with the adjustable sights for my VP9.

Once you practice the drive the dot approach you will get it. But if you were hoping for accuracy at 15 yards and beyond, that setup is not ideal.

But what a well made gun!! Mine shoots any ammo and everything groups nicely. I do want to try to lighter spring kit but that will be for another day.
