Selling??? Gun and ammo together?

I know a guy who sold an SKS. The guy had a stripper clip and loaded it during the inspection and told the guy to "F- off". So even selling them apart, which is recommended doesn't protect you. Bring a friend if face to face, and do it in daylight. For online, try here first.

Here or Armslist is a good place to list. Might be quicker to sell both together but might not get as much money as selling them seperate.

I'v probably sold 30 or so guns in FTF transactions over the years and have never had a problem or uncomfortable situation. Just bought one tonight in the parking lot of Menards. I usually meet in the parking lot of Cabelas or similar. Use your judgement but I wouldn't be paranoid.

if its a gun in a caliber I have no others for I give them all the ammo for a slightly more price. if its a common caliber I have been known to toss in a box of target loads.

Selling combined depends. If we are talking about a common cartridge, I would sell separately especially in today's market. If we are talkin about something exotic, I would sell together. If I decide to sell my 7.62 Nagant revolver, I would look to sell the holster, ammo, and maybe the somewhat rare reloading dies for it if the buyer were interested. I would do so because it would add a lot of value to the sale.

I'd either list your gun here, on gunbroker, or on consignment with a local shop you trust. I personally would list with my local shop simply because it is less hassle and I think they are good guys.

".....I would sell separately especially in today's market."

I look at it inversely. In today's tight ammo market the inclusion of some rounds would be a good selling tool. If you are not comfortable about a potential buyer you are going to want to blow him off anyway.
The idea is to make the sale , right?
Armslist has been very useful to me. Keep your radar sharp.

I usually include 1 box of factory ammo in sale on armslist, but let them know I have reload available, during this ammo shortage we are currently evolving thru, any ammo (even reloads) are a premium for any gun enthusiast. I buy reloads....

Wow. I guess it takes all kinds. For liability purposes, I would never give or sell my reloads. For personal safety, I would never shoot anyone else's reloads.

I've had good luck with Midwest Gun Traders; it is a free ad site. You do have to be wise in your dealings. I've had some real odd balls contact me. I have had success with people who live locally. Just have a conversation with them by phone and it doesn't take much separate the "nutters" (as they say in the UK). Just this week I got email from a woman asking for pictures of the shotgun I advertised for $475. After the pics, she said she loved it and asked if I would take $550 and that if so she would drive from Chicago to pick it up. I live in NE Kansas. Sent her a response to ask if we were talking about the same gun.....no response. Just be careful and you can make lots of sales, with or without ammo.

Not to mention the fact that on a private sale you can NOT sell to anyone out of your state.

I'd go Armslist. Like another poster said, having ammo with your gun can be used to maybe up the asking price.

My lgs wont take ammo, even if it's boxed up and factory original. He said it's illegal. Not sure if that's true, maybe someone here knows more on that.

I'd just post what you have on Armslist and go for a local face to face private sell. Package type deal.

Armslist works. I have noticed an uptick in out of state offers when I'm selling or trading a handgun. Most want to cross state lines......No Way!

I have sold four guns on Armslist where I only do face-to-face transfers in my region. I have included ammo with each sale. The longest it took me to sell a gun there was two weeks. There are lots of scammers there but they are preying upon willing to ship.

Out of state is fine as long as FFL protocols are followed. I have gone that route ; legal and acceptable.

The last gun I sold was a FTF transaction. That was before universal background checks. It was chambered for a commen cartridge so I shot it all before I sold it. If I were to do it again, with the ammunition situation the way it is now, I'd sell them separately.

I'd list separately on Armslist, but mention in the ad for the gun that you have ammo that can be added to the deal. Just be smart. I've never really had an issue on Armslist, but one time I did meet in a gas station to trade a j-frame. The guy handed it to me, and I noticed it was loaded. As I was annoyingly dumping the cylinder out in his truck he said "I always try to add a few rounds when I sell a gun".
That's fine and all, just don't leave them loaded in the firearm!

Sell together but if it’s a Face to Face they don’t get to even touch the ammo until the transaction and 4473 (I’m in NY) is complete.

If you are selling firearms, you will very likely get a scam offer like the one mentioned above, involving a shotgun. The buyer offers a cashier's check which is counterfeit. You ship the goods, and after a couple of weeks the bank charges you back for the counterfeit check.

I recently listed an amateur radio transceiver for sale, and had half a dozen such offers, the first two in the first 15 minutes. I finally had to amend the listing to say, face to face cash only. That put a stop to the phony offers.

I will also bump the price a little if I have the dies for it as well and include them. When I sold my XP-100 in 7mmBR, I included brass, dies, scope and a hard Doskocil carrying case
