advice on buying "one and only" gun

The XD mod2 tactical was a favorite of mine in 9mm with a 5" barrel it had a nice sight radius. The Glock 34 is a good choice also with a few upgrades to make it perfect.

I'm intrigued by the "only one" challenge, and the strict rules. I prefer revolvers for most things, but give your choices, would opt for the Glock.

So here's a question: can you purchase additional barrels to change cartridges, or is that a hassle? If you can, think about a Glock 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel. You could also get one in .357 Sig just for kicks. I have a 23 and bought a KKM conversion barrel and some G19 magazines for it. It now sees far more 9mm ammo than .40, although I still shoot .40 on occasion. I prefer the smaller form factor of the 23/19 over the 22/17, but you could do the same with the 22. Is that an option for you?

+1

I too prefer the Glock 19/23 sized gun.
If limited to 1 handgun I would get a Glock 23 40sw with a spare set of conversion barrels in 9mm and 357 sig. You would want some Glock 19 &/or Glock 17 9mm mags for it.

Note - if conversion barrels are difficult to obtain, a factory or aftermarket 9mm barrel (non-conversion barrel) will drop in and work in a Glock 23.

If you prefer the Glock 17 size, get a 40sw Glock 22.

40sw = major class is most competitions.

For something competition ready right out of the box I would go with the CZ Shadow 2. Next would be a 1911 in 9mm., a Beretta Model 92, and finally a Glock G17.

Big Glock and 1911 fan but for a non-carry, single competition gun on that list I'd go with the CZ. Plenty of parts support, holster and mag support for gaming, solid reliable gun, heavy for competition and excellent trigger.

Or if price really isn't an issue a Czechmate or TSO.

For my personal preferences I'd get a Wilson EDC X9 5", but that's because I like my carry X9 and would want them the same.

All of the guns you mentioned are good. Shadow will be a really good choice for target shooting etc., but Glock 17 would the best all around for defense and target with certain do it yourself custom job- but if you are not allowed to carry pistol in Australia then I would definitely suggest a Glock 34. A high performance 9mm that will best awesome for range and home defense. Slightly longer frame then 17. Check it out. You might like it. I would in your circumstances.

go to a store, and hold all of them and since they are all good, go with the one that fits your hand best

so i've recently joined a pistol club that mainly does ipsc but also a little of all the other stuff.
anyway im in australia and the rules are very strict and its very hard to get a just one gun.
so at least for a very long time i only want to get ONE gun and use it for most things. so i need it to be a bit of a all rounder. and price isnt much of a deal. i've decided i want it 9mm so i can shoot in most of the comps. i've tried quite a few guns and have really enjoyed using them so far i've ruled it to these guns that i've enjoyed

glock 17 a, baretta 92x, colt 1911 9mm and c7 shadow 2 9mm.

opinions of the above guns and what you guys think should be the gun i choose to last me a very very long time. and what else you would recommend as a one and only gun if u had to choose

so my conditions are i want 9mm, has to be a all rounder that does a lot of ipsc, price doesnt matter and its a one and only gun for a long time.

any advice from you experianced people would really help.

Glock 17 every day and twice on Sunday
That said, if I was without a gun and was buying my first and only gun, cant really imagine it but if I was, it's a roll of the dice as to which I'd pick because the 1911 has a quality about it that's just more aesthetically and intrinsically appealing that the gockjust doesnt have. But from a practical standpoint my experience tells me to reccomend the 17. Because it's a glock and because its a double stack 9mm, twice the capacity. I would also possibly consider lopping 3/4 of an inch off the grip to accommodate 19 mags and make it easy to carry....
