Birth date 1960 .. the revolver has a bit of wear on the aluminum frame .. not bad ,. it is tight ..
Really hadn’t been shot alot .. I was extremely excited getting this revolver..

I can see why! It's an extremely clean and well cared for 60 year old S&W revolver! Congrats on the great find!

Outstanding!

Looks similar to my 12-2 snub with the flat latch. However, mine has seen countless hours in holsters and has the wear to match.

I usually carry with the 130 gr AE ball, 125 gr Hornady XTP, or 110 gr Silvertip.

Im hoping to get to the range tomorrow ..Im planning on running some 158gr LRN ..

I like the S&W model 12 and used one for my walking gun when I went for long walks for exercise in the evening. The downside is that recoil with strong loads can be stiff. I just shot some COLT 110 grain jhp rounds in my model 12 and S&W model 15 (also a K-frame, but made of steel and with a heavy barrel and adjustable sights) and the difference was really noticeable.
I chose the COLT load because it is still a standard pressure load and I now avoid using +P in my model 12 and J-frame size guns.

If Smith ever brings it back, I would like a 4 inch, heavy barreled version with round grips. I would ship it off to MAGNA-PORT first thing and then carry it with the 110 grain jhp.

About 10-12 years ago I bought a 12-1 and it's so pristine I've never holstered it. It became sort of a safe queen which is a shame. If it had some wear I'd carry it. I do shoot some mild wadcutters occasionally but that's it.

I don't even recall seeing any Colt branded .38 ammunition; S&W yes.

An American Rifleman staffer once had a 3" full lug barrel put on a M12. Still lightweight, but a bit more velocity, sight radius, and balance. He didn't say where they got the barrel; it was before the full lug K38. I wonder if it was not a 586 barrel turned down to K frame threads.

I ran a few cylinders of 158 Gr LRN standard pressure over the weekend.. while at the range ..
it seemed rather tame .... might be because my main range gun was my Charter Pitbull in 40S&W
which was a bit lively.. but was controllable..

Buckeye,

The COLT 110 grain loads are a much faster load than the 158 grain lrn, with the manufacturer listing 1150 fps versus about 800 fps for the lrn.. I have fired the old police load and it does not kick as much or have a bright flash.

Very nice Smith.. Love the original diamond stocks too, even in good shape... Mike
