In stock brass 223 for 50 cents with free ship is available. I don't worry too much about ammo unavailability simply because I buy fairly regularly and it doesn't hurt to slow or stop occasionally when prices get silly. As a general rule try to keep a few cases on hand for everything we shoot regularly with some volume, though occasionally that number can swell if something inexpensive happens to appear. Plus still have enough unloaded components for probably more than a lifetime of hunting and casual shooting if felt the urge to fire up the press, so to speak. Things tend to accumulate as you age and spend time puttering!

Technically speaking one could make there own powder. Technically, but it's hard. And if you mess up it's bad. Jump on google and look it up. Might be put on a list. It's only three ingredients if I remember correctly.
Primers can be made at home. Again it's dangerous. And they might not work. It's on google as well.

That's crazy talk.

The only reason I never bought a .223/5.56 AK --and they are Very appealing-- is because the lower prices of Maadis and SARs, even the (TGI) AMD-65 seemed more reasonable. Demand/supply.
I don't need enough mags to be a "Roof Korean", or like Rick in the "Walking Dead", >>facing barbarian psychos<< (own just ten AKM mags: just Hun. Tankers), but the .223 mags' prices were a turn-off, about three years ago.

* It seems ironic that possibly a majority of AR owners seem to feel that they have a gun with high quality, "milspec" steel....but the steel in imported AKMs must be stronger than in their AR-15s?
I'm probably confused about the typical perspectives.

Especially with a firearm made largely from aluminum and plastic.

Here is some steel cased 223, 55gr wolf ammo. $379 for a case of 1K rounds, if you can add it to your cart they have it in stock.

Edited to add: Their shipping times have been going up on a daily basis, might be a month before you see this stuff on your doorstep.
If you have time, then shop around for yourself instead of relying on wikiarms or any other ammo search engine. Find just about every ammo seller online that's fairly large, and make an account. Get on their email lists, and check the emails when they come in.

I got a case of Tula 223 for $250 last week. This will make for my second case of it, to go with my case of brass IMI that I got for $369.

I have also been able to add a second complete AR (not a build kit), ordered one today for $525. Got the first one last month for $475; had a chance at another for $499 but hesitated too long. When I saw $524 I didn't hesitate.

Things will stabilize in a couple weeks. The big distributors are getting shipments back.

Sometime after 2013, atf did a survey about gun ownership and it put something like 600 million guns, 1.5 billion accessories (mags), and over 10 trillion rounds of ammo in civilian hands. I would love to see a 2021 survey.

You must have a primer fairy in a cage and make your own powder?
No but I did buy lots of components when they were available and cheap. Remember when Wolf primers first hit the market and were $13 per M? I bought about a quarter million primers and I'm still deep in primers. Same with powder. Same with bullets although I cast a lot of those. I'm dependent on no one.

Chain store. Pmc 223 ball was $9 a box of 20, Didn't see any limit either.

Was around $7 before panic ( diff chain store ). They got cleaned out

I see this being the selling number across the web. AK ammo is not so expensive but has went up. I can not find any 223 for sale at any kind of numbers or fair price. I am starting to see some powder and reloading supplies being out of stock. Is this all over or just the places I am looking? Thanks
The last 223 I bought was from Nosler and the sale was mentioned by someone here in the forums. It was 400 rounds for $100 (including shipping) of 40 grain ballistic tip bullets advertised for bolt guns only which I bought it for my 1:12 twist bolt gun. It was just one of those see it, price is good so buy it things.

The 223 stuff is hard to find right now along with the components to roll your own. What I am seeing in bulk is really getting up there in price.Following Sandy Hook we saw 223 running out at a buck a round.

I sleep peaceful at night knowing that across the hall from my bedroom are many thousand`s of rounds of each kind 0f ammo for each gun I own.

I just came off a web site in my local area in the inter mountain west. 1000 .223 $650 was asking price. That was for factory new loaded brass.

Also an ad for 500 Wolf Steel cased .223 for $195

I buy as sales come on. I have had a poly AR I sold for 650 a few weeks ago and a Stoner Midway upper for 300. I bought when they were on sale and going super cheap. I have a lot of mags. over 120 AR 30 rounders and will sell if those go up in price. I still see mags are not gone. Also 22lr is still around. At least in my area for now.

As of right now, SGAmmo has brass case Wolf for $500/1000 + freight.

They have over 300 cases.
As of now (Saturday, which is 3 days later), that's gone. They do have (5 cases) of PPU, 459 a case (+ shipping).

I know we're generally talking about brass in this thread, but I got a head's up from a vendor; on Friday at approx 7pm CST, they would have limited amounts of Brown Bear and Silver Bear available, first-come-first-served. At 7, it wasn't yet up. A couple refreshes, and I saw Silver Bear, 62gr HP, 500 rd packs, $139 limit 2, 48 available. I ordered, it was $300 after shipping. Rechecked after checking out, Silver Bear out of stock, 14 left of Brown Bear at $135/500, limit 2. Didn't try to order that, as I am now sitting on about 4k (1k IMI M193, 2k Tula 55gr, and now the 1k Silver Bear). I refreshed, it took awhile to reload, out of stock.
This was not listed on a search, it was only an emailed, timed special deal. It was gone in maybe 10 minutes max.
I got the Tula for $250, another vendor, similar deal.

Find a dealer who occasionally gets stock, get yourself on a mailing list (and an account set up so it's 1-click to check out), set your "I will pay this price" point, and if/when you get the chance, do NOT delay. Not right now.
