So I got a brand new ak and started to clean it real well, when I got done using CLP on the dust cover I noticed some small little black flakes, there was only a few. Is this common? Should I ask them for a new cover?

Also when I scrape my finger nail across the cover some black material come off on my finer nail.
Ugh. Both of my Norincos have blued covers, but looks like PSA uses some sort of paint and the CLP attacked it. I would call them and see what they say. Cant hurt, and they have a good CS reputation. Worst case, a new cover (or a can of black engine paint, lol), is cheap enough.

they use a finish similar to bulgarian type found on Arsenals allegedly. Same thing will happen on those guns to because its just a cheap bbq paint. I just use PB blaster on all of my AKs personally.

After spending hard earned money on a new rifle I too would be disappointed. Give them a call and see what they will do. You could probably find a blued one for cheap if you just want to replace it. The real question is How does it shoot!

Drag it behind the truck for a 1/2 mile or so and then it will look like a real AK. (Not being a snob, since the only AK that I have is from PSA, but if you want a good looking rifle, get something like an old Weatherby.)

some cleaners, especially the ones designed to remove plastic fouling in shotguns, will easily strip cheap AK finishes. I have seen it before once on a duracoat type finish on a reworked Saiga. Break free clp or powder blast, I forget which. Bought at walmrt back in the day
One time I bought the fanciest new car polish in the store and tried it on my grandma's car, and was astonished to see my buffing rag colored the same color as her car. Things react I guess.

I had a GF3 AK for a bit and never had the cleaners eat up the finish that bad. Im guessing the finish didn't adhere to that part for whatever reason. Give PSA a call. Even if you dont care about a replacement they will probably want to know it's happening.
