Wow!:what:

Its notable how many Highway Patrolmen look like theyve never seen the inside of a duty holster-

Of course the same could be said of Colt Troopers, lol.

Ive still got the original Magna grips for mine. I keep thinking about putting them back on, but the Targets are soooooo much more comfy.

That is a beautiful gun!

Does the Highway Patrolman have a Target Hammer like the 27 does?

-Stan
Not standard, but they could be special ordered with Target hammers, triggers, and trigger stops.

I believe Driftwood Johnson has one so equipped.

Original Colt Troopers (not Mk3), could also be special ordered with Target grips and wide hammers, but they never went in for Target triggers.

Agrred. I've got an extra set that may find their way on it.

That is a great picture.

Howdy

Thanks for pointing that out. To tell the truth, I never noticed.

According to The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, ".400" semi-target hammer, .265 serrated trigger or .400 smooth trigger" was standard.

Got to confess I did not know that. Always something new to learn about S&W revolvers.

I have three Model 28-2 revolvers.

These two have the .400 wide semi-target hammer.

This one has a .500 wide target hammer. Notice the spur is longer than on the other two hammers.

Two comparison photos of the 'standard' .400 wide semi-target hammer on the left and .500 wide target hammer on the right.

Back to the Original Poster: Very nice Model 28, it looks like it has hardly been shot. Notice how bright the blue is. Model 28 finishes varied a bit over the years, sometimes they were matte, sometimes almost as bright as a standard S&W high polish blue finish.

I see you got the box and all the papers. Do I see the original plastic bag of tools peeking out under the brown paper?

Like this?

Yes it's in there too. And it has the N prefix

I paid $499.00 for this one about 6-8 years ago, right before the prices on them went through the roof. When I first looked at it, it looked like it had a rough bore.
After I stuck something down the barrel and drug it back out I notice it was clothes lint.
I bought it and one pass of a cleaning rag and I discovered it looked like it was new, like I was hoping it was.
It must have spent 30 years in someone's sock drawer.

Jeff Olson, You got a nice gun there, but I never could warm up to the magna grips. I would love to find some target grips for both my 28s, I wish someone would re-produce the original target grips for square butt grip frames. I can't find any.
There are tons of grips out there to convert a round butt N-frame to a square butt grips, but very little for a real square butt.

What model N-frames came with round but grip frames anyways?

Some 3.5" snubbies had round butts. They are exceedingly rare.
